  1. It's been years since I can recall so much Gray rainy weather in July.
  2. An overcast day as we hit mid July with highs in the 60s. I have fall fever. Detroit only has a 2% chance of having a high in the 60s in July, so today is a rare day to enjoy.
  3. Hard to get better weather as we approach mid July than a high in the 70s with low humidity. Wish I could bottle today up thru late August.
  4. max of the year so far. as warm as it's been overall, weak sauce for max temps
  5. 3 days of fresh air in the house to start July feels just amazing. The AC will certainly be going back on tomorrow though.
  6. Gorgeous day today. After a low of 56 at DTW, a nice summer breeze all day is keeping temps in the low 70s with low humidity How I wish all summer was like this!
  7. A good example of how interesting the weather can get In 148 years of record at Detroit June tied (w/ 1943) for 6th warmest June on record. However with a max temp of only 90....81 June's have had a hotter max temp and another 21 also had a max of exactly 90. So only 5 of 147 other June's had a hotter average temp, but only 45 of 147 other June's had a colder maximum temp for the month. So clearly it was the warm minimums that dominated this month as the most impressive feature. Despite that the 45゚on June 21st missed the low by one mere degree.
  8. 2 fantastic city pictures from yesterday. My brother took the one in Chicago (similar to Aleks), and the other was taken in Detroit on Belle Isle.
  9. I have a NWS rain gauge and snow equipment. I do need a fully functioning station tho lol.
  10. That's why the 1936 heatwave is so unfathomable. This is when NO ONE had AC.
  11. Now I'll do the fact checking lol. Today was actually the 6th time. 4 88s, 1 89, and now 1 90.
  12. Not to mention, while our annual percent of sunshine is low here in the Great Lakes (I think Detroit is around 51%), we typically have very sunny summers. It's unrealistic to not expect a single overcast day in a full month, but for as gray as it is from November through April, it's very Sunny in the warm season. I would bet it's actually sunnier here than it is in the South during summer.
  13. Some crazy flooding scenes around Detroit and just to the North.. Some rainfall totals, my area definitely just missed the heavy stuff. Garden City: 6.61" Grosse Pointe: 6.50" SE Ann Arbor: 5.34" Ypsilanti: 4.75" Detroit City: 4.74" Ann Arbor: 4.22" Detroit Metro: 2.38" Wyandotte: 1.62"
  14. droughts almost never last in this region.
  15. Detroit got down to 45° this morning, missing the record low by 1°. I left the windows wide open and wake up to 59° on the thermomostat. A mostly cloudy day with temps in the 60s followed....oh how I love autumn in summer! Some crazy temps in the usual Valleyed or elevated locations. 36゚ at Ann Arbor, 37゚ in White Lake. Some below freezing spots up North.
  16. Had a strong little pre storm that was good, hadnt seen a good storm in forever, but the main line itself was not that bad. Just rain and lots of lightning.
  17. Low of 51 at DTW but the usual cold spots as expected tanked, 38 at Ann arbor and 40 at White Lake. Why can't this be all summer (70s/50s)?
  18. Dry heat is the biggest crock I've ever heard. In fact it's probably up there with sun angle in the Winter time as one of the most annoying weather phrases I hear. A former coworkers daughter lives in Phoenix and it is unbearable. Go out in the sun when it's 116 in the shade and tell me how comfortable it is lol. I've always thought it was like comparing apples to oranges. Yes, dry heat is more comfortable than humid heat. But don't compare 88 and humid to a 115 and dry like they are on the same playing field lol.
  19. Since 1874, Detroit has only beat Chicago in 90F+ days 27 out of the 147 years. Here is a look at the annual average each decade. DETROIT VS CHICAGO: AVG ANNUAL # OF 90F+ DAYS PER DECADE DETROIT CHICAGO 1880s- 5 5 1890s- 9 11 1900s- 6 9 1910s- 11 14 1920s- 9 13 1930s- 17 19 1940s- 16 23 1950s- 15 28 1960s- 11 19 1970s- 12 21 1980s- 13 22 1990s- 12 16 2000s- 10 13 2010s- 16 19
  20. Thanks! Surprised it really has happened that many times. Chicago does average more though (16 to 12).
  21. I was browsing some Chicago heat stats. Trying to see what the greatest disparity was between Detroit and Chicago wrt 90 days. But it's too early for that now. Right now it's 0-7. But while i was looking, the 1950s really caught my eye. Absolutely unbearable summers. I've always noted how we don't get the extreme heat of the 1930s-50s but I didn't realize how torrid the 1950s were in Chicago. Days of 90+ 1952- 38 1953- 42 1954- 36 1955- 46 1956- 21 1959- 39
  22. 90F+ days to date, updated with avg to date. Quite upside down.
