With temperatures a few tenths of a degree above freezing and no wind yesterday's snowfall was a beauty in my hood. Last night skies cleared and there was also a full "super" moon. How many times does all this coincide? Pretty rare. I woke up around 2am and the house was so bright. Besides the full moon all the snow on the foliage added to the brightness. I decided to get dressed and take a walk. Outside there was total total silence, calm and eerily beautiful. Here are a few shots taken by my cellphone. Wow, what a night. I will remember it for a long time.

During our snow the temperature was between 31.9 and 32.8F. Every tree is laced in snow since there was zero wind. I know this is your favorite type of snow.

31.7F Very light snow. I'll call it a wrap at 2.75". Seems like others are right around this too. Winter wonderland snow.

32.2F Light snow 1"ish Snow has picked up slightly in intensity Temperature slowly rose all morning to a high of 32.9F about 45 minutes ago. Now has fallen back to 32.2F

FWIW the 12Z Geese still has something big for later next week 32.4F temp keeps rising. Beautiful 1" snow but anymore rise in temp it will be coming off the trees

32.2F Light snow. Temperatures continue the slow rise up here. 30.6F at daybreak

31.8F Gentle light snow about 3/4". Sure not a lot of cold air around for me to be this warm, with elevation on Jan 6th. Beautiful snowfall with no wind.

30,7F Light snow 1/4" Vis 1.5 miles est.

Down to 31.5F Just flipped from drizzle to snow grains with small flakes mixed in.

10am 31.5F Just flipped to snow grains and very small flakes

31.7F Very light freezing drizzle. Temperatures have been falling steadily

I'm just catching up on this thread. Have you seen what was going on in Europe the past few days? Unbelievable warmth. Not just a warm spell but epic for them. The heat this summer and now this. Of course weather and climate are different and I have not looked at how warm 2022 is going to come in but just seems like global warming is happening faster than ever..

My high was 49.1F About 3 or 4" of glaciated snow remains from my Dec 17th 19". 27" of snow so far this season. Around dusk we were visited by our Bobcat for the 2nd time this week. The weather cam caught him walking by.

Thanks guys for answering my question about lake temperatures and lake effect snow. I guess the next challenge for communities that are digging out will be the rain coming. A lot of weight for some peoples roofs.

I live in NH but just checking out this thread. Wow. So sorry for all the people that lost their lives. It must have been a horrible way to go, slowly freezing in your car or outside. I know we talk about climate change and events. I am curious as to the lake water temperatures this fall. Were they above normal which would lead to heavier lake events? If so I wonder if the lake water was closer to normal might the snow bands be slightly weaker? Of course a storm of this magnitude would produce heavy snow no matter what but warmer lake water temperatures in the future may increase the likely hood of heavier lake effect. Snow

Looking at the 12Z GFS for snow. No snow through 384 hours.

At least it is cold enough you can freeze food outside and refrigerate in a garage or somewhere a bit warmer

Sorry. I was totally wrong when I said you will be fine. Hope you got everything out of water. I know you built the cabins up higher and the house is okay. Arctic front is almost here to start the rapid freezup. Lots of ice will be left I guess.

49.8F Highest wind gust so far 40mph. Firstt bare spot in field. About 5-7" remain in most places.

47.9F Only 36mph gust here. Surprised it has not been more. Snow pack down to 6" after 3"ish last night

So far wind is under performing here. ya,it's windy and we had a gust to 36mph. As it veers more south and west I would expect it to pick up

So far winds are much lighter than the GFS. At this time that model was showing widespread gusts over 50mph across NE. My highest gust has been 35.
