  1. Ontario came out with new modelling and best case scenario we have 2500 new cases a day by December and worst case is 6K+. No matter what though ICU is strained within 2 weeks and if worst case happens we join you guys with our hospitals just being completely overrun.
  2. Ya, looking at heading down to Lake Erie Sunday to check out the waves and possible lakeshore flooding.
  3. what's everyones thoughts on the Sunday storm? Looks like there could be some big winds and lakeshore flooding along Lake Erie
  4. Pretty sure the 20s are gone. It took over 4-6 years to claw back to normalcy after the 07-08 crisis. You seem very capitalist and nothing wrong with that, but my issue is this. In Ontario small businesses said "please government get out of the way and let us open" while at the same time lobbying the federal government for payroll subsidies/tax deferral/an assortment of goodies. Thats straight up socialism. My mindset is to have the government spend its way out of this but I also think businesses can't have it both ways. You want to be open then Bleep off with asking for help from the government. In case there's any misconstruing what I mean. The government should shut it down and support the businesses and individuals impacted. health comes first.
  5. Hows everyday life out in St.Johns? Here in the GTA we keep trying to open more and more even though were seeing nearly 1400 cases a day now. Gyms, restaurants and stuff are open everywhere aside from Toronto itself.
  6. Ontario and Canada in general is falling apart with handling it properly. Ontario is having record day after record day. You guys out in maritimes/Atlantic Canada are doing well but everyone west of Quebec is failing.
  7. While 70s and sun is nice and the average temperature is still in the 40s, looking at the extended and it looks like November will be a nothing month. We only average 3-4" so not crazy to go with nothing but an awful start to the season compared to last year.
  8. wow that's crazy, Ontario is now over 1100 new cases a day (a record today) but we have nothing like that as far as I know. How does something like that work for the tri-state area?
  9. If were going to have warmth im okay with it in early November. The averages for the first half of November are still in the 40s/50s here so even -5/-10F below normal barely gets us to wet slop while the + departures gets us great early October weather.
  10. Freezing rain and snow is accumulating in Texas-OK-MO right now. If it can do it down there in late October mid day it can definitely do it up here. Though I admit id rather it snow at night in October/November and March/April
  11. haha. I do think were tossing around the lockdown way too liberally. My friends that go to the gym and enjoy downtown night life say this "lockdown" sucks (both are heavily restricted currently). Since I do neither and I travel to the mall, grocery store, heading to a small wedding this weekend I respond with what lockdown? hahaha they get defensive fast. Lockdown and masks have certainly become very political and clear cut lines either your with us or against us mentality.
  12. Fast start to winter across the midwest. Someone in this subforum (forget the name) keeps putting out long range predictions and they keep nailing them. Convinced he/she is a time traveler haha
  13. Ive never understood the anti-maskers. I have to wear a mask when working with cement, concrete sand, grinding/cutting various things at work. If I can do that in 90+ heat pretty sure they can put on a mask for a quick 15 minute stop at Wal-mart/grocery store.
  14. I said it in another forum, but im down for doing this but you can bet I want this to be across the board type acceptance. If I have to accept defeat then I want all work from home stopped and all CEOs and mid-high management also crowding into workspaces with the rest of us. There will be no mid-high level manager directing me to work from the comforts of his/her suburban house.
  15. I understand the herd immunity route, however what I don't like is that those pushing it (not saying you) are the from the work from home class. If they all agreed and said okay Ill go back to my office and sit 3 feet away from my coworkers ect.. Instead they want restrictions on bars, sporting events, outside of work restrictions lifted but generally still say they don't need to go back into office. I work construction and feel relatively safe but if we went down this route you'd bet id want my boss out there working with us putting "skin in the game" and not just sending blue prints and work orders from the comfort of his house because he can work remote and we can't.
  16. That meme is almost one of the worst out there. We're really going to compare traveling to Europe to fight Nazis that have conquered most of Europe and North Africa to being nervous of Covid? Being lock downed for most of us is challenging but lets not compare going to War to liberate Europe as the same thing as risking my health to go to a shitty mid level manager job in a random 3 story suburban office.
  17. While I agree that currently this isn't the Spanish flu and unlikely to reach that magnitude. What I am positive about is when not if another Spanish flu scenario happens there will still be large parts of the population that will say "meh, I need that gym pump so ill roll the dice" or the guy saying masks won't save us ect..
  18. Looking forward to the first real "snow" chance later this week into weekend. won't accumulate much down here but I can start to see some scenarios where 1-3" falls in the higher terrain of southern Ontario
  19. Having this debate with a few friends. The Ontario government has restricted in the big cities things like restaurants, gyms, museums, weddings etc.. A lot of the industry has taken to social media saying its not their fault its schools, construction, ect.. If Ontario kept them open but said okay the fine for not adhering to the rules will now be a 500K fine and closure for 1 month. Do you think they would be happy since apparently they are all following the rules, or do you think they would balk at it and say no way. Generally curious in what peoples opinions are. I personally think the businesses would freak out and balk but that's just me, some friends said the businesses would gladly take that deal. I also want to point out that were not communists up here that drive box cars and listen to whatever the government says haha. Ontario citizens are starting to debate and "break" the covid laws like what's happening in the US. (not the crazy right wing stuff, that wouldn't fly here haha) https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/hamilton/hamilton-police-ancaster-parking-lot-car-show-1.5731583
  20. This would be about 15 days ahead of last years winter storm in the GTA. Every day after mid October gets more and more realistic to see snow in the sub forum. The last two Octobers ive seen light accumulations in the northern suburbs of Toronto
  21. The concerning trend is the spillover into rural southern Ontario. Ford looked a bit shaky and emotional today which doesn't make me feel great lol. I hope im wrong but I almost feel like the train is moving too fast to stop now and he knows it.
  22. CBC has learned that the new daily cases for Ontario will be between 900-1000K in the last 24 hours. The province has scheduled an emergency meeting for 11:30am to see what can be done Yesterday was the most ever recorded at 797
  23. As a Canadian it does get a bit tiring hearing conservatives say "move to Canada" and liberals say "im moving to Canada" I get that its mostly used as a talking point but as Stebo pointed out we actually control our border and immigration and no just showing up to the Canadian border saying you want to live here doesn't work. A guy I work with is from Louisiana and he married a Canadian and still had boatloads of paper work to do and money spent to accomplish it. Also Ottawa doesn't run the entire country. British Columbia and Alberta are about as politically similar as Alabama and California. We literally have 1 province Quebec who had a referendum to leave Canada in the mid 1990s. If Ottawa ruled with an iron first as the guy from SC makes it sound like, I doubt Quebec would be given that choice. End Rant haha
  24. I like that. The averages are still in the 50s for most of the region during this time period so an extended period of 60s and hopefully sunny weather would be nice. I enjoy winter but lets get a few weeks of sun and 60s/30s and then end of October switch to 30s and wet snow and lake effect/snow chances.
