We have about 1.5" of slop right now, with drizzle/very light rain falling at 33.3F. Not the most pleasant storm, but very solid rates (at times white rain) from about 3pm to 7pm.
It looks like a compromise between the GEM/RGEM depiction and the main global models will turn out correct. If GRB ends up we’ll below their expectation then the GEM/RGEM will have won this storm.
Good to hear from a Madison area poster. Looks like you could have used an advisory on this. HRRR has been indicating 4-6” of snow for awhile for much of SC Wisconsin.
Plenty of disagreement among the models. NAM and the GEM/RGEM have most of the precip in S Wisconsin and south and are colder, while the GFS/Euro and their ensembles have most north and very little if any snow along I94 and south.
Neither UMB Wx or myself follow college football. He’s not even a UW fan whatsoever so it’s your loss for bringing UW/OSU sports into the mix. Anyways, until we see a +PNA combined with -NAO/AO/EPO it will be tough sledding for the southern half of Ohio.
A half hour ago I measured 7” on the back porch. I had no expectation of any more than half that. 5-6” of that was in 3 hours or less when it was ripping early this afternoon.
It’s been just blasting snow from Milwaukee back toward Janesville the last couple hours. I can’t remember the last time I had consistent 30-35dbz returns for a couple hours in a row. I might bust a bit low, already did for MSP.
It's better than having an office that hugs models a couple days out and never lets go even when the trends insist to do just that. That's MKX for you.
What Chi Storm and Stebo said, plus Alek is that 1% along the lake. I still think you and i will probably see around 2”, making my first gut pretty good as well.
Then how come only Milwaukee County was affected? If it’s warm air advecting from the East it would affect Kenosha, Racine, Ozaukee, etc. Counties unless it was lake/UHI effect.
But this kind of trend has occurred several times this year, so it would be fair to predict lower amounts if you live along the lake like Alek. Heck much of Milwaukee County was mix/rain overnight. UHI + warm lake = lethal combo against snow.
My goodness OHweather, you are seriously GLOV poster of the year 2020 with these continuously informative posts which will spark research on many of us weenies’ part to learn more Thanks!
