  1. If only that last line was actually true. Only ways it is will be if we find a pretty solid cure/workaround that allows restrictions to be loosened or if it dies with summer heat/humidity. This is the slower route we’ve tried to choose, though we’ll probably end up somewhere in the middle and have some of the worst of both worlds. I’m not saying I disapprove of the actions, just being honest.
  2. I had shingles, which is considered a remanifestation of chicken pox, and it was pretty bad. Got it at 21, and all you notice throughout the time is constant nerve ends poking at you. Thank goodness it was only a week or two of that (during summer break so it did not affect school at all).
  3. That certainly wasn't happening from what I've heard around here the last week or two, but maybe in Illinois since they've now issued SIP?
  4. A bit counterproductive. It's not like shelter in place is that much different in reality from what is happening now. Just about everything is closed except for convenience/grocery stores, services to communities like food pantries, and essential businesses. Now by going with SIP, they are creating an unnecessary mad dash to stores that will expose everyone again and violate social distancing.
  5. A lot of families live together across three generations, not to mention the potential for poor ventilation. I'm not convinced it would be much worse if society was going about their business but just social distancing as much as they can
  6. I think it's been a week and a half since we really started seeing action to lockdown.
  7. That sounds like the most balanced take on it. Hopefully he's right about the decline after the next eight weeks.
  8. Yeah, anything that can ease the suffering and impact of the virus would be welcome.
  9. Pretty cool storm potential for you guys though; it's quite possible you get an inch or two of snow on the front end, thunderstorms, possibly severe, with tomorrow's wave followed by up to an inch or two of snow on the back end of that.
  10. If we don't find a drug that works like that malaria drug that may work it could be until a vaccine comes out that we are instructed to social distance (12-18 months)
  11. She’s far from the only one with that belief, given flu and I think Pneumonia deaths being up from past winters and my own experience with a flu/cough.
  12. I wonder at what point does it hurt the country too much to go this route? To think we hurt the economy and homebound citizens for months on end, philosophically you can make a very good argument for Britain’s strategy of herd immunity.
  13. Northern Italy isn't exactly warm this time of year. Touristy places would also counteract that, and these are areas that were popular with tourists when this started to spread. I grant your Australia inclusion though.
  14. Well it's the first event where all sports are canceled until further notice in our lifetimes I believe (September 11th was similar, but just short term).
  15. Yeah, I'm a little concerned. When you're mostly homebound, Americans normally at least have sports and entertainment to consume. There will be very little of that for awhile. Shame it is coming when we turn to Spring and the weather is getting nicer too.
  16. May isn’t exactly a sunny month around here at least. Cold rain events are still oh too common.
  17. Woke up in the middle of the night and seeing a nice quick shot of mostly snow; radar looks pretty nice and 'spring-like':
  18. This is an interesting wave for precip type. Prairie du Chien reporting 41F with drizzle and Dubuque, to the south and east, looks to be mostly snow at 35F atm.
  19. How many model runs are we going to toss tonight? I'm guessing for many the GFS and GEM?
  20. If winds are high, then I would expect ratios to be low, at least for the first part of the storm with more marginal temps. Would be better if we had lower winds.
  21. Good front end thump for Chicago on the 0z NAM that's for sure. If it went NW this runk, it wasn't by much.
  22. Trend is NW a bit but the 12z NAM is the NAM being the NAM I suspect. Northern outlier.
