  1. To me it starts with the two party political system. Very toxic, and Trump hasn't helped things at all.
  2. Hi Hoosier, question about the AmPol board; were you Hoosier on that board as well?  If so, we need a moderator similar to you to balance the bias out :)  If you've read it at all, you can see how it's nothing but an echo chamber largely outside a few alternative viewpoint posters.  The New England thread about Coronavirus, on the other hand, is a great, balanced discussion, and ours is pretty good too, just not as active.

  3. I thought they were going to do a drive-in protest (with some popcorn)
  4. He also recommended as of March 9 that young, healthy people still travel on cruises if they have one planned.
  5. Yikes, I just read the list of everything she is banning, including yard work in general Sounds like a bit of a power trip. I understand Michigan is not a great trajectory, but the populace will be none too happy, and I'm guessing come next election they may voice accordingly.
  6. A passing light snow/graupel shower.
  7. There was also an April 14-15 snowstorm in much of Minnesota and Wisconsin back in 2018, so make it three consecutive years with a storm over the same two day period if it verifies.
  8. Well it’s possible when you’ve got pneumonia but also tested positive for COVID-19....I think I know what the death will be attributed to.
  9. What they’ll probably have to do and the only way to keep it contained at the point we do start opening up is require everyone who hasn’t been infected yet wear masks and hopefully there are antibody tests readily available and those who have already been infected and test negative would be the only ones who don’t need to wear masks.
  10. I wonder if some of the asymptomatic cases had loss of smell or taste but didn't realize it because it's not a standard symptom of cold/flu by itself. That might help us eliminate some of the guesswork if there are some who have that symptom alone and we told them to isolate themselves.
  11. I’m pretty sure COVID-19 has a much higher R0 than H1N1 which means more would typically have it at any one time given similar social patterns. Edit: ninja’d by Hoosier.
  12. Is better forcing still indicated in Wisconsin? Last I checked that was the case, thinking Monday's emphasis on convection was in N/C Illinois and Tuesday's was a bit to the north due to expecting the warm front to lift north.
  13. Unless they show us the sample size/extent of their sampling, I would take these ratings with a grain of salt. It seems like all the states getting a B are the ones most advanced in this pandemic and almost seems like a scolding for all the D and F states. Oakland, CA’s County should get a low grade though; research what happened last weekend there.
  14. I can't believe how many decent sized Midwest cities are reporting freezing rain during the middle of the day (thankful we are on the warm side of things and will not be seeing freezing rain). Rochester and Minneapolis, MN; Des Moines, IA; Kansas City, etc. all reporting it right now.
  15. Being cooped up indoors (I hope you have the windows open at least) with no exercise isn't the answer either. If you're worried then wear a mask and increase the 6 foot rule in order to get some fresh air.
  16. Should enjoy the solid stretch the next week or so because it seems the general look Easter weekend into the following week is the ridge shifts east and we may be in the volatile zone of storms. Would truly be something if we had a wintry threat around my bday for the third straight year.
  17. A lot of people already voted absentee but other than that, I’m not sure why. Maybe they think it’s worth a calculated risk but I think they should postpone. I was considering helping out my local site but had a change of heart today.
  18. No fooling, this ain't the newest sci-fi flick.
  19. Man, this is hitting the travel industry like crazy; nearly half of our travel agent team was terminated today including myself (won't go into much detail, but worked for a relatively large travel company for almost 6 years). There is no way around it, it's impacting every part of our life except the weather.
  20. Yeah, anyone with a cough due to severe allergies I really feel for
  21. If it was a cough and/or fever, how ill advised. I understand if it was mainly runny nose and sneezing/congestion, which would be common allergy symptoms and not common with COVID-19.
  22. If only that last line was actually true. Only ways it is will be if we find a pretty solid cure/workaround that allows restrictions to be loosened or if it dies with summer heat/humidity. This is the slower route we’ve tried to choose, though we’ll probably end up somewhere in the middle and have some of the worst of both worlds. I’m not saying I disapprove of the actions, just being honest.
  23. I had shingles, which is considered a remanifestation of chicken pox, and it was pretty bad. Got it at 21, and all you notice throughout the time is constant nerve ends poking at you. Thank goodness it was only a week or two of that (during summer break so it did not affect school at all).
  24. That certainly wasn't happening from what I've heard around here the last week or two, but maybe in Illinois since they've now issued SIP?
