  1. Just a wee slushy coating on leaves and existing snow today but that makes it something like 17 or 18 days with snow this month. My p&c says sunny for the next 3 days, I don't believe it. Nope. Rob + PUI = Color me surprised
  2. It's snowing nicely now. 40/33/SE3/SN- I'm so glad that a couple of people that report on COCORahs in Westchester get it or I'd look like a slantsticker.
  3. Will you come help pump my basement out as it floods when that happens? Yeah, I didn't think so. We need a slow melt...
  4. Just before the flip to rain here it snowed incredibly hard with massive flakes. The final 30 minutes put down well over 2"! As it flipped I was outside and measured 5.5, less than 10 minutes later it was under 3". This goes perfectly with the 2.5-3" reports here.
  5. When the street 1200 feet away disappears I think of it as moderate, when the street 750 feet away goes away it's heavy and when the next block over disappears I go outside and groove on it
  6. It was colder than it's been for a while, I went through ~25 more gallons of heating oil in the last 6 weeks that the same time period the last few years. And yeah, I'm over 50" for the month and it's been a workout Is there a good way to search for your own posts for a particular time period? I don't keep notes so I need to go back and find where I mentioned my storm totals and add it up because I think I'm forgetting some stuff.
  7. And they have the wrong tires. Even my sports car is a little monster with good winter tires but with the all season sport tires I run the other 3 season of the year I can't keep it from sliding off the crown of the road in 1/2" of snow. Be careful, with 4-6" of snow here and now it's raining the trees and branches are starting to sag badly. It's just a matter of time before branches start breaking off.
  8. I had a plow come down my (dead end) street around 1 and then it really started coming down. He had the salt spreader going but it was useless and everything is a mess. No pre-treatment here either. I think they figured it was just an inch or so and during the day at marginal temps so it would mostly take care of itself. That's not what they got. lol
  9. Yup HUGE. I figured 2" or so and got 5.5". It would have been more if it had ever gone below 33*.
  10. It never went below 33 here but DAMN it snowed hard for a while there. 5.5" before the flip and now the trees are starting to sag as the goo turns to mush. This has really been one of the most fun winter weather months in a long time. About the only thing to make it better would have been a good convective snowstorm with lightning and thunder and all that. I wish my world wasn't so blown up at the moment and I could get out and appreciate it other than with a shovel in my hands. We were there, we were out snowshoeing, checking out frozen waterfalls and doing family winter stuff then *crack* goes the ankle
  11. That was intense. I saw the RS line creeping up this way so went out to move the snow before it got too heavy. Well, it was already heavy That was the best goop we've had here in a few years! It was absolutely pounding down golf ball flakes for the last 30 minutes or so and I ended up with 5.5 (maybe a touch more) before the flip to NCP. In 5 minutes it was down to about 3" Now it's just soggy. This reminds of of some of the Long Island storms when I was growing up. 33/32/RN-
  12. I've met a few of those ditches up close. That stretch over the top can get really ugly. It came in like a wall, took nearly 30 minutes to get the temp down from 38 to the point where it would really stick and then BOOM it started building up in a hurry. I should go out and measure because it's over 2", probably more like 3, but it's 33* so I'm sure it's compacting quickly too. It's not sunny but it's much brighter than it would usually be when it's coming down at 2"/hr. Plow came by a little while ago and you can't even tell. Thankfully it didn't start snowing until 3 minutes after I got my wife into the house after the pre-op doc visit this morning.
  13. What a great snowfall. It took a minute to stick to everything because it was 38 when it started but once it did it was off to the races. I'm easily at 2", more on elevated surfaces like bushes. It looks like a lot more because everything is all puffy and rounded. 33/32/S1/SN++
  14. It's warming up in a hurry, 29° and climbing under deep crystally blue skies. The mud is gonna be the real deal this year, there's a ton of moisture locked up in this snowpack. I had to break it into little icy chunks to move it yesterday.
  15. I didn't pay too much attention overnight but when I woke up this morning it was between 8-12 around the area, that's at least 5-8 colder than predicted. It's still only 9 at KDXR at 8:45. Tomorrow is starting to look like a plowable event, maybe more to my WSW than here but that's ok.
  16. Man that sunset during a super heavy snow shower was sublime. So colorful and so subdued with the most wonderful diffuse lighting I've experienced in years. The colors were being bounced and diverted and scattered and sparkled and... OMG it was fantastic. I would have missed it if I wasn't out there doing my best for my wife who's broken and scared and melting down because that's what we sign up for. I got the whole line shoveled out, all 120 feet of it, from the back door to the street so I can get my truck up the hill to save the agony of getting her down the stairs and icy driveway. My fkn back and shoulders are already stiff, sore and hurtin' but I got 'er done and my watch only alerted me to dangerously high heart rates a few times.
  17. It has been snowing almost all day again, there were a few breaks for a few minutes here and there but I don't think I've gone a full hour without snow falling since the sun came up this morning. Right now it's sunny with dark clouds all around and snowglobe snow floating down. It's just beautiful out there. 33/21/NE4/SN-Flurries
  18. That tail end snow added nearly 2" of fluff bringing my event total to right about 6". It is quite photogenic, the different precip types each stuck to something so everything is covered and due to the fluffiness of the end stuff even the ugly streetside piles are soft and white (for a few minutes longer). I approve of this storm and would take more just like it
  19. Tell them to use SWF next time. It was still snowing until a little while ago. Gotta love when you get fluffy lake effect on the backside of a multi day storm. That stuff added up to nearly 2" bringing my total up to about 6" for the event.
  20. That last round was pretty great, of course I passed out and missed most of it but I can tell from the fluffy surface how good it must have been. It's still flurrying but now the wind is out of the NW for the first time so it's different.
