  1. Ehh, they can keep it It's weird though how 90 up here feels so hot compared to 95+ down there.
  2. Stations around me ranged from 8-14 for the low this morning, up here on the hill it was more like 15. I was just outside getting some stuff done and it's nice in the sun, looking forward to a nice crisp day.
  3. I lived and worked there for the 1986/87 season. The skiing on that mountain is absolutely fantastic when the snow is good! The main lift runs from 9400 to 11,6 and the peak is at 12,3 (20 minute walk) with the bottom of the beginner lift at 9200(?). You can find every type of snow, whatever you want, somewhere in there. There are some of the finest steep north facing, exceptionally wide spaced trees I've ever seen anywhere, a couple of raging steep shots to give you a good buzz, extended above treeline stretches, almost south facing ridgeline high speed groomer, due south facing steep and wide open with rocks and chutes, a couple of kickass volcanic chutes and... Yeah I miss it and need to go back again when the snow is right.
  4. There was a noticeable increase in accumulations as you went east from where I am in Mahopac (NY) through Danbury and then towards you. It was definitely elevation based too.
  5. Yeah but nobody lives there so it doesn't really count
  6. I went out around 11 and cleared the cars and moved some snow out of the way and in the shade the snow on the cars hadn't settled too much so I stuck a ruler in. It was at 11"! Surprised the heck out of me.
  7. I am so looking forward to getting back on top of my game. I really want this week to be warm and all of the snow to go away so I can get back out on the bike but I know that's not going to happen. I might try to get out and ski a little bit next week when it warms back up and see how that goes.
  8. It was sarcasm dude. You have to respond to Bx with sarcasm, it's in the rule book.
  9. Woo woo I'm right about 30" for the season now I'm only ~20" below average
  10. WTF man, I was forecasted for 5-8 and ended up with a little over 9"! I want a do over so I can get less like the forecast said. Bust!!!!!
  11. I was watching out the window and within minutes of shoveling the neighbors driveways were wet even with the temp at 28*. Now the sun is coming out and the water is starting to run in the street. Boy it really ramped up just east of me. I saw a few pics from some of the higher ridges between Danbury and you and it's easily over a foot.
  12. I'm seeing reports of 10-12 in CT. My 9 is down to about 7 now, QUICK compaction! Makes me wonder if I had gone out at 4 (or earlier) rather than wait for coffee and such if I wouldn't have measured more than 9. I had a pretty good round of wind a little while ago and the temp dropped 2*, it's still breezy but calmed down a bit.
  13. We used to wake up at 5:30am to wait for the siren, if they blew the alert siren at the firehouses we had no school. This night before stuff keeps biting school districts and businesses in the bum, you'd think they would learn...
  14. Soggy, sticky, wet, heavy powder What's your temp over there? I got 9 and hovered just below 32 for almost the whole storm.
  15. Uh uh 9" isn't a bust at all I was forecasted for a little bit less so if a bust to the high side isn't a good thing then... yeah whatever.
  16. Final is 9"! Elevation FTW 31/29 now and it was 35/28 when it started yesterday, temp hovered just below 32 all night so this is some heavy stuff especially having fallen on warm surfaces after yesterdays 45*. It will compact quickly so get out and measure early. There must have been some great snow growth towards the end, the top 1" is HUGE flakes. I fell asleep at about 12 and there was around 3", woke up at 4 it had pretty much stopped snowing and there is 9 so this storm went to town at well over 1"/hr for at least 3 hours
  17. I just did a little walkabout and the lowest measurement I got is 8 and the highest was just shy of 10, most are right at 9" so... 9 it is. It's some heavy, wet stuff!Temps ranged from the 30 it is now and 35 when the snow started and it had been in the low 40" during the day so I suspect the lowest layer is real mush and this will compact very quickly. Get out and measure early. There must have been some crazy good snow growth especially towards the end because the flakes in the top inch are huge. I really should have gotten up during the snowfall because it was about 3" when I fell asleep around 12 and 9 when I woke up at 4 and it was done snowing.
  18. I'll throw some clothes on in a few minutes and go measure but eyeballing it I'd call it 8+ and possibly near 10. What a surprise
  19. 31/29/SN-SN+ wind is ever so slightly out of the SSE, good growth for the last 2 hours or so as it's coming down at about 1"/hr. At this point I hope it snows until after midnight so I can say it snowed 5 days in a row here.
  20. At least 3" down now. 31/29/SN-SN+ with good growth as it's coming down at about 1"/hr now. Snow is sticking to everything so hopefully Walts concern about power outages doesn't come to pass.
  21. I got super lucky and didn't lose power in that one but the houses down the block from me did. I had a 20 foot long branch land on the power line to my house but was able to lever it off before the line ripped out. It was sparking something fierce and I didn't want it to light the house on fire so did the stupid (?) thing and got it off of there. Mid 50's here. We got pummeled in that one. Lost power for 5 days after Irene raged through here and put a tree on my house and a bunch across the street on the power line. The snow a week (?) later took the power out for another 4 days We lost Halloween here too, the town banned trick or treating. A year later after Sandy the same thing happened and we lost power again, at least with that one I didn't have any trees on the house and only lost power for a total of 6.5 days between the two storms.
  22. Always learning... That's the key. I've been here in this house for nearly 23 years now and pretty much every weather event holds something new for me. 2018 was a string of new experiences.
  23. 3/31/97 was near 60 and 4/1 was in the high 50's then that night I got 17". We had been experiencing a very early spring and the trees were nearly fully leafed out already. What a disaster that was.
