Did well here. Will get official reading later on but eyeballing the gauge looks like 1.25" to 1.50". Barely a puff of wind. Just nice deluge of rain. Most of that total fell in 30-45 minutes. Some low rumbling thunder and a few bright flashes but overall it was the rainfall intensity that was most impressive. This will hold me for a week to 10 days. I'm happy.

Just .11" here last evening and overnight. Hoping this afternoon / evening can deliver something meaningful. VERY humid and uncomfortable outside.

Chain saws and wood chippers were going in the distance all day long. I am right by the Berkshire Valley Wildlife Preserve.

Drought area in increasing over the Mid-Atlantic and gradually spreading northward. Feel pretty sure this will reverse over the next 1-2 months but it has been dry.

Some pictures from this morning. It COULD have been a weak EF0 only because damage started at my corner and went up the street. Down the street just some twigs and leaves. I am also not sure if there was any damage to the neighborhood on the other side of the tree line. Damage seemed to confined to be straight line winds. Highly localized. Not sure.

Lots of debris all over, shredded leaves and small to medium branches down. Did not walk the neighborhood but there have got to be some uprooted trees. JCPL says power restored by 11pm. I don't buy it. Not sure why anyone roots for this stuff. Interesting and exciting for sure but when it comes down your street not so much. Minor in the scheme of things here but when people have real damage not so exciting. Not even enough rain here to make it worth while.

BLASTED here. Easily winds 65-70 mph. Have not seen or felt anything like it since Sandy. All the deck furniture is piled up at one end of the deck. Some of it blew off the deck via the steps. Table top is 12"x12" tiles and most of them were lifted out of the table from underneath. Power is out and generator is running. Suspect it will be out for a while. Had to be numerous trees down around the area. Winds were just ripping for about 2-3 minutes.

Hi @SACRUS Liberty was referencing 1993 and I was referencing the killer heat wave of 1995. Sorry, my error. Has this area seen Heat Index readings similar or equal to 1995? That was the worst heat I can ever remember. Large loss of life in Chicago. I believe HI readings around here topped out in the 115 degree range but I'm not sure. It was stiffing heat though. HI readings in the Mid-West topped out near 125 degrees.

Not sure we've seen HI readings like that since.

That one was absolutely brutal.

Max totals focused just south of Rt. 78. Some winners and losers north of there across NNJ. Check out the 5.5" over Hunterdon County.
-
.61" heavy showers in the hours before and just after mid-night. Lots of lightning to my south. Was just on the northern edge of things here. I will definitely take the the .61" and call it a good day.
-
Jealous here!
-
Wish some of that would sink south to along Rt. 80 but not happening.

Some heat stats.

First day of Summer in Barrow, AK. Temperature 34 degrees. Sun above the horizon until 8/3. Looks like a nice place to visit for a day or two but you gotta be a hardy soul to live there permanently. Looks primitive.

Non watered lawns are crisping and browning quick. Going to get worse before it gets better.
-
Agree it will very likely kill anything widespread severe but I'll take 1/2" rain and be happy.
-
Bummer if this becomes reality. I'm thinking not but stranger things have happened lately.
-
Funny you mention about rain water vs. potable water for lawns. I have noticed that for years but never heard anyone else mention it. I also thought perhaps is was about chlorine. A crisping lawn will green up better and faster after a rain than with a sprinkler, at least that is what I have noticed.
-
Exactly. Same for those of us with vegetable and flower gardens. Water tables and reservoir levels are not the issue, drying top soils are. Especially with peak sun angle in progress. Five to ten days with little or no rain this time of year means almost daily irrigation for those with agriculture interests. Tough on local farmers and will increase the costs to the consumer if they have to do long term steady irrigation.
-
A crisping lawns and wilting flowers watch is in effect. Going to take some daily watering to keep things going later this week into next. We've been lucky up until now but time is running out. If things pan out as it appears it is a classic hot and dry pattern. Humidity will be tolerable with west to northwest flow.

We'll see where it ends up but no way June is going to finish below normal that's for sure. Question is do you take the over / under on the opening bid of 3 degrees above?
-
An underwhelming .40" here.
-
Not going to see any 90+ with that pattern !
