  1. The real losers with these very strong el ninos are the ski resorts and skiers in the east (sad for us). 90% of other people prefer less snow and highs in the 50s and 40s instead of 30s and 20s like the last winter.
  2. Hopefully all this rain means a great fall foliage season. The last few have been rotten because of severe niña induced summer droughts.
  3. Worth nothing that if you get far enough north and or high enough in elevation in new england the correlation between cold and snow becomes almost nil. The climo there is cold enough that a 5-6 F + winter does not meaningfully affect snow odds. If you plot snowfall versus temp for a place like Stowe VT it will essentially be a random scatterplot with no correlation.
  4. Yup, even down here in the swampy hot coastal plain suburbs of NYC the snow last winter was nearly all blower powder. Very odd for us. Only the mid december storm was wet.
  5. It will keep happening all the way through winter. I bet one of those times it might phase with the polar jet and sparks will fly.
  6. NYC bullseye storm. We deserved a soaker, lately we've been missing storms to our north and south.
  7. The wet paste low ratio dense snow is the prettiest looking. It clings to everything and whitens everything up better.
  8. All I know is that we are way past due for a cold and snowy march. Every march for the NE coastal plain since 2019 has been basically a total shutout for any type of wintry weather. Total march snow since 2019 for central park= 0.5".
  9. Will it miss the city to the south?
  10. I'd imagine a ton of record high minima were broken last night.
  11. I'd consider it a godsend if its only +6 for the interior. That's very workable for anyone north of albany.
  12. Amazing we finally hit 100 and it happened in an el nino summer. After all these repeat ninas we couldn't do it. Makes no sense.
  13. For anyone on the I95 the 2030s should be significantly snowier than the 2020s. Hard to do worse than rock bottom.
  14. Do you have any early thoughts about December? Especially for elevated interior new england? I'd be happy if it's better than the washout disaster ski month that december 2015 was.
  15. Sure. Snowman didn't say that though. He said regardless of strength.
  16. snowman made the stronger claim that +qbo, +enso decembers are a slam dunk always warmer than normal REGARDLESS OF STRENGTH (his exact words go read it). 1997/2004 are weakly +qbo. He's wrong.
  17. What part is wrong? December 1997 and 2004 were indeed +QBO, + ENSO, and below normal. 2018 near normal. Refute the claim. These are numbers not opinions. You can be warm biased without literally lying like you currently are.
  18. Huh what are you talking about? December 1997, 2004, and 2018 were all +QBO, +ENSO and below or near normal in new england. Incredible that you can spread misinfo like this and get away without anyone calling you out.
  19. The upcoming east coast heatwave and the recent western snowfalls is a canonical la nina feature. Yet another sign we are not yet being influenced by + enso.
  20. Nino isn't really in charge in the southern hemisphere either. If it were it'd be snowing feet and feet in the northern/north central andes of chile, yet it's bone dry just like a niña.
  21. We'll need soakers like this once or twice a week for a month or two more to finally kill the on and off 2 year long drought.
  22. Not always. Even northern new england isn't immune to literal torches. See December 2015. I am crossing my fingers we don't get something like this again.
