Nice fall day today. High of 59 or so, chilly. My landlord hasn’t turned on the heat yet and I have a newborn it’s kind of annoying and obnoxious of them like what are you going to save $1000? Cheap people!

    NYC Heating Season Specifics

Heating season runs from Oct. 1 through May 31. Landlords are required to follow the temperature guidelines below:

    •  From 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., the indoor temperature must be at least 68 degrees if the outside temperature falls below 55 degrees.
    • The temperature must be at least 62 degrees between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., regardless of outside temperature.

Call 311 if the temp inside is below 68. That usually gets the LLs attention.  Can’t imagine waiting for temp to drop below 62 with a newborn, that’s just cruel for the baby.

  2. Not sure if posted, but KWO-35 is back for testing!

Funny how Newark couldn’t reach 90 on Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day. But had no problem making it to at least 91 on the first day of fall. Wonder if this has happened before?

    5-27....82

    7-4......89

    9-2......77

    9-23.....91 so far

I'm sure the drought like conditions of late helped.  Get rid of the soil moisture and temps usually have no issue rising rapidly on hot days.

Lots of phantom heat this summer. We were AN but the cool shots made it very tolerable. Seemed to be cool air lurking nearby all spring summer and now fall

Yeah with the exception of July’s heat that has been the case. The high DPs and I’m sure very warm overnight lows allowed us to have AN temps.  We didn’t have much record high heat this summer.  Feeling good with my 0 90-degree days call for Central Park this month.

Down to 54 last night, another great weekend continuing the theme.

Next shot at 90 for the warmer (southern spots) Wed but gotta watch 'clouds getting in the way' then more ridging into the mid and sexond half of Sep.  Although it could be dirty ridgng with potential of tropical influences so while ridging and upper pattern signal very warm finish it may be way of warmer lows.  I think the following is possible

90 degree days from here on out

    NYC: 1 (maybe 2)
    EWR/ LGA: 2-3
    PHL: 3- 5

I don’t think NYC hits 90, thanks to vegetation. LGA & EWR numbers are possible.

  6. OKX at 7:30 talked about the cloud cover upstream. Not sure why they didn’t go partly cloudy though.

    NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 PM THIS EVENING/...
For this update just tweaked clouds for the next several hours
based on satellite trends, otherwise forecast is on track.

The biggest change to Sunday`s forecast has been to increase
cloud cover from previous forecasts. The modeled sky cover has
not lined up with what has been going on upstream across PA and
the Eastern Great Lakes. Therefore have taken a compromise
approach with respect to clouds for today as skies should
average out partly sunny overall, with more in the way of mostly
sunny skies further east across the region. Intervals of
varying cloud cover with mainly scattered to broken cloud cover
is anticipated further west, especially later in the day.
Temperatures will average near normal with upper 70s in the
metropolitan areas, with lower and middle 70s closer to the
coast. The winds should average between 5 and 10 mph across much
of the region, with an afternoon sea breeze more likely along
the immediate south shore of western Long Island, Queens, and
    Brooklyn.

    ...Summary...
A severe thunderstorm moving northeast over Mastic/Shirley and
then into Manorville in southeast Suffolk County produced an EF0
tornado. The tornado first touched down on Dayton Street, about
400 yards south of the intersection of South Street and Dayton
Avenue in Manorville. It sheared large tree limbs and the tops off
of dozens of oak, maple and pine trees, as well as uprooting at
least a dozen shallow rooted large trees. Several electric poles
were downed by falling trees on this block, with collateral tree
damage noted to a few houses in the neighborhood. The tornado
continued northeast through the south end of neighboring Rosewood
Street and then across its intersecting cross street of South
Street. Several more trees were uprooted, large limbs broken, or
tree tops sheared on this leg of its path. Facing houses on the
north and south side of South Street had widespread tree damage
and uprooting. A shed was destroyed in this location as well,
with damage to residences in the form of sporadic blown off
shingles and siding, missing storm screens, and a couple of broken
windows. The tornado then continued northeast through a wooded
area, where more tree damage was noted, before crossing the Long
Island Expressway near Exit 69 while lifting. The path of tree
damage and debris ended on the service road on the north side of
the LIE near the intersection with Wading River Road.

Many thanks to Suffolk County Fire, Rescue and Emergency Services,
Brookhaven Highway Department, and local residents for their
assistance in conducting this storm survey.

EF Scale: The Enhanced Fujita Scale classifies tornadoes into the
    following categories:

    EF0...Weak......65 to 85 mph
    EF1...Weak......86 to 110 mph

    EF3...Strong....136 to 165 mph
    EF4...Violent...166 to 200 mph
    EF5...Violent...>200 mph

...STRAIGHT-LINE WIND DAMAGE ACROSS LONG ISLAND...

A line of severe thunderstorms move across Long Island last night.
These storms produced tree damage and power outages to portions
of the south shores of Eastern Nassau and the western half of
Suffolk County. Doppler radar and observational analysis support
the damage being consistent with straight line winds and
downbursts. There was no evidence of rotation with the storms and
    no damage surveys are planned.
