There's no plan to cut for the solar panels. I was trying to get ahead of anyone who might suggest that we cut some trees to improve our solar production. They provide valuable shade, etc.

We took a different path for solar. - Small house, at the bottom of a wooded hill with the southern exposure being shaded by trees. Neighbor's trees are part of the issue so even if we cut everything, it wouldn't be 100%. - Roof is set up with the biggest section facing north. - We have Eversuck (or Neversource) in New Hampshire so there were no state or utility rebates. The federal tax incentive definitely helped. - We went with Craftstrom, a company that sells what are essentially balcony solar / backyard solar panels. The inverters are set up so as to prevent back feeding into grid. Note: they try but our experience is that they are not quite ready for prime time. Whenever we have had an issue, they have worked to make it right. https://craftstrom.com/ - So no installation costs. We already had two phase in the garage for an EV. This drove down the costs substantially. - My partner is technically competent so when we needed new cables for a different position in the yard, he just built them. - Our house uses a lot of power (tech stuff) so we rarely make 100% of our power from solar but it does happen. - Looking at the current market rates for power https://www.energy.nh.gov/ENGYApps/CEPS/ResidentialCompare.aspx?choice=Eversource I expect that with higher rates than we have currently, we will move closer to breaking even. - We also put in mini-splits this fall and will do the math to determine whether power or oil is the best bet for winter heating. They're definitely more efficient on a/c.

Yes, this is exactly what I do. It's become part of the spring startup process - on a nice day like this, I lay out socks, boots, sneakers, etc. Spraying pants is somewhat harder though. I try not to get the spray on anything else but it's a challenge.

Yes, our plow person gave up early on and just brought in his construction company's front loader. Several times. It was an expensive plowing bill but I was really glad that we didn't have to snow blow our long driveway.

I've got a FIL in Morristown's area and it's just not great for him. He lives at the end of the road, up a steep hill with some portion paved. Trying to estimate how much snow and/or ice and get him the info has been a challenge, If anyone has suggestions for me to pass along, I'd be very grateful.

Saturday I’ll be at Thunder Over New Hampshire and it looks like it’s going to be as toasty as it was last time. Because we’re part of the STEM exhibit, it’ll also be a long day. I hope any storms don’t impact the flights; people will have been waiting hours in the sun.

It can still be impactful for people. This week I heard of someone who had their well run dry. I don't know what type or how deep it is. It happened to us once in the time we've lived here. Or course, it was over Labor Day weekend and we had company for the long weekend.

We have forgotten to mention horseflies trying to attack you at the lake. And yes, we have water running down our hill in the ditches, a swamp on on side at the bottom and a lake on the other side. Plus plenty of trees for those bugs that like that. We have them all!

The closest location I can find to possible snow is Radisson, QC. Maybe someone has the need for an epic road trip? I just imagine the convo at Customs. "Business or pleasure?" "Pleasure! I haven't had any snow since April and it's forecasted for northern Quebec."

Although Cornell's eBird app will tell you that the sound identification in Merlin is not guaranteed to be accurate. Nonetheless, it's still an awesome app and I do recommend it.

I've been keeping an eye on Saturday afternoon too. Plans include moving sensitive electronics out of a high school with a bunch of high school students being mostly in charge. We do need to be out of the school by 4:30 probably at the latest and can't leave anything there. I'd be happy to pass on any major storms. MHT area.
