  1. The cold air really does squeeze out the moisture. It is 29 on the central plateau a with flurries of dime sized flakes. I know we are not expected to get much accumulations this evening, but hoping for an overperformance.
  2. More related to February, but someone posted on the WeatherWest site the attached image. It seems to imply a very wet February for Tennessee, but I cannot really tell what the chart is saying beyond that.
  3. Moonlight is making for a beautiful night.
  4. The size of the flakes are now like peas vs quarters earlier, but it's dense and sticking way better. Hard flurry vs plummeting slush balls. Im at around 2+ inches but dead center in the spinning blue mass on radar, so hoping it snows for a lot longer.
  5. 35 and a cold rain near Falls Creek Falls. Not seeing any flakes yet.
  6. I am trying to not get excited on the plateau. Dry slot killed us on the last storm.
  7. Snowing here even though nothing is showing on any radar apps. Perhaps the radar cant see it with the low ceiling and 1850 elevation? We had a bust yesterday with less than an inch, but it looks like we got another inch overnight into this morning.
  8. That radar pic implies McMinnville and places a bit east are getting hit, yet I am under that orange/red and its sprinkling graupel. Weird storm thus far.
  9. 25 on the central plateau with the tip of the snow showing as just a few miles west. It may not be hitting the ground. Either way, the radar is not matching the sleet fest shown on NAM. Or are temps are supposed to rise quickly?
  10. Thanks for the video! For a second I was confused by the video title since I live on a road named "Horseshoe Dr." and the video title is "Explaining 'horseshoe' snow forecasts in East Tennessee".
  11. Question related to snow in Tennessee... As a new resident, I am hoping for a quick education on the geographical areas of Tennessee. I am from California and know that San Jose is considered "Northern California" even though it seems placed in the central part of the state. So when someone on the these forums says "Southern Tennessee, where does that begin? Where does West Tennessee end and Middle Tennessee begin? Where is the upper Cumberland Plateau vs central or southern? Second question has more to do with snow and altitude. In California, we had storms where it could be in the low 40s and raining in San Jose (80ft), but snowing at 2000 feet in the foothills a couple miles away. Is that same effect present here in Tennessee? Do we get storms where its rains everywhere except for the Plateau and the Appalachian range getting snow? I know in the summer, my location on the plateau sees temps about 7 degrees lower then McMinnville 30 miles west of me.
  12. I moved from San Jose in June. I have been in snow at Lake Tahoe and Mt Hamilton, but not while it was actually snowing.
  13. It went from rain to snow in minutes here on the plateau near spencer. I have never lived in snow, but the flakes are like quarter size and I show a half inch on the ground after 20 minutes.
  14. Very colorful here on the plateau at 2000 feet.
