  1. According to RAH, this doesn’t look like anything more than a cold rain nuisance event south of the NC/VA state line. Only a little ice expected so they say.
  2. All winter long, we’ve heard the repeated mantra that “the players are on the field”. For almost every system that flies through, don’t worry, folks, because “the players are on the field”. Well, I don’t know about y’all, but our players seem to be a bunch of overpaid, lazy prima donnas who don’t want to work for their checks. ”It’s not my fault. Cold air mass couldn’t catch a ball if he tried.” ”Don’t look at me. I was being blocked by those damn linemen in the Apps.” Our players on the field suck. No heart. No drive. Might as well move on to spring training.
  3. Portion of this morning’s RAH discussion: A strong warm nose aloft on the order of 45-50 degrees will overrun the strengthening cold nose at the surface Friday night and Saturday. The surface wet bulbs are forecast to fall to 29-32 late Friday night into Saturday morning in these areas. Therefore, rain will develop Friday evening/night then possibly become freezing rain near the VA border counties first, spreading south into the Triad and northern Triangle (north Davidson/Forsyth ENE to Orange/northern Durham, to Warren Counties) between 07z and 15z/Saturday. A Winter Weather Advisory may be needed if the current trends hold for these areas Friday night into Saturday. Since this is 4th and 5th periods, we will hold off for now. In collaboration with the surrounding WFOs, we will not issue a watch as current ice accumulations are expected to be less than 0.2 of an inch, with most areas 0.05 to 0.10 currently expected. Lows in the lower 30s.
  4. Some mets have mentioned that there is less atmospheric sampling and data going into the models due to fewer airline flights over the past year.
  5. Yeah, I thought that was odd, too. And both the WPC and RAH maps were made at the same time.
  6. I’ll be around for severe, heat, and hurricane even if only updating the obs thread.
  7. I like how he makes his own snow in his yard when it’s cold enough. LOL The man loves snow.
  8. The good ol’ days were when East was in Greensboro and Spectrum was TWC. I remember those times fondly. Fortunately, we have Denton up here. He’s like the friendly neighbor who grills and just so happens to have a met degree and loves snow. I really enjoy watching him. There are others, however, that just leave me thinking, “How in the heck did you get your job?”
  9. As far as tv mets are concerned I’m a huge fan of East and Denton because of their professionalism and demeanor, but there are others—and I won’t name them here—who are excruciatingly painful to watch.
  10. You need to stay in the Lakes/Ohio Valley forum until you return. ;-) Otherwise, you’re just rubbing our faces in it.
  11. The hi-res NAM is probably more realistic, but it’s catching on. It only goes out to 1:00 AM Saturday, so we’ll have to wait and see. Sorry, dear. Your Valentines gift delivery has been delayed until Monday.
  12. The Appalachians have been setting better picks than Duke lately.
  13. It’s the same reason some of us enjoy reading The Road or One Second After. It harkens to a survivalist instinct still ingrained in us. Just be thankful we’re on a message board discussing the weather and not a potential EMP or asteroid strike.
  14. That’s the truth. The last concert I attended was in August 2019 at PNC Pavilion in Charlotte. Didn’t realize at the time that it might be my last for a while.
  15. I haven’t been below freezing since 9:00 Monday morning. It’s like a heat wave. 44/36 currently. Warmest several days in a while.
  16. If you people don’t stop bickering about the weather, I’m gonna have to start talking about politics and religion. But, yeah, this in one of my favorite boards because it is about the weather as a hobby and most of us don’t get too bent out of shape about things. We just all need to focus on keeping the conversation in the right threads. I fall short sometimes.
  17. Instead of cold air damming, we need cold air, d@mnit.
  18. “The great Appalachian chain has not moved that I have noticed (even with the Sparta earthquakes and tremors this year). So, unless the high becomes centered to our NNE (arctic air air will not roll down the eastern seaboard into the Carolina`s). It will stay west of the Appalachians.“ “Remember, there are 4-6k foot mountains to our west and northwest. The models have been horrible with driving the arctic air THROUGH the Appalachians. That just can`t happen.“
  19. I’m not sure Friday AM will amount to much. Saturday AM might though.
