  1. Indeed, was not expecting to get well into the 50s.
  2. GFS keeps reloading with the ridge. Many runs, it’s there in some form through the end of the run. That’s Oct. 20 at this point.
  3. Nothing I’ve seen on any model screams record highs, but it’s a long period of temperatures and dewpoints that are tolerable in July but miserable in October.
  4. That’s probably the standard-bearer for recent warm Octobers as far as I’m concerned, but similar Octobers seem to be occurring at least every other year lately, which is concerning.
  5. The record October at MDT is a +6.2 anomaly relative to the current normals. It’s probably too early for you to start thinking about breaking that record (2007), but it looks like it’ll be within reach.
  6. Saw an all black one while walking the dog last week, then a black one with a brown band in my driveway on Saturday. Don’t those things cause skin rashes?
  7. Centralia mine fire evaporated the rain before it reached the ground.
  8. Agreed. It’s an ugly week ahead. Thing is, a week-long stretch in October where the temperature doesn’t drop below 60 looks to be about a 30 year event (happened only a handful of times in the records). If it happens this week, that will be twice in the last 5 years (8 day stretch in 2017).
  9. Ben is washed up and needs to retire now, but the bolded came into stark focus when Mike Tomlin threw in the towel and punted in GB territory down 17 with 14:00 to play.
  10. Not quite as hot but every panel for me is above average for the entire run.
  11. Also Yankees lost, guaranteeing at least 3 teams will still be in the running for the 2 playoff spots tomorrow.
  12. The divide between Alabama/Georgia and everybody else seems massive right now.
  13. Verbatim, my temp does not go below 59 from tomorrow morning until the evening of Saturday the 16th. Would have me rolling into mid-month at a staggering +10.9 departure.
  14. Agreed that a cold pattern in October does us no good when it comes to the snow we want. But there’s a difference between a nice, seasonable to warm October vs. a seemingly endless string of days with highs pushing 80, lows in the 60s and summerlike 60-65 dewpoints. If that run verifies, think 2007.
  15. Every time I think the models can’t make October look any more ridiculous, they run again:
  16. Overnight lows on the bad side of 60 are the killer.
  17. I’d have to dig into it at some point. I try not to think about climate change that often because it makes me depressed.
  18. A new normal where September is 5+ degrees warmer than it was just 30-40 years ago. That’s the part that gets me.
  19. The only thing I’ll add is that the 1991-2020 September normal at MDT is a full 2 degrees higher than the 1981-2010 September normal, so last year with those stats you’d be talking about a +4.
  20. The Red Sox sure do have a lot of underachieving seasons for a team spending $200M/year. I can’t say I know what that’s like, but I do know what it’s like to be frustrated with one’s team.
  21. So a huge pattern flip coming in a week or two?
  22. Also taking the under, though I think hitting mid-month +5 or more is very attainable.
  23. Recency bias. Didn’t MDT get shut out this March? Not even a T?
