Because it’s the gfs I guess. Those thicknesses, 850’s solidly below freezing, surface temps near freezing, early January ... no way it rains. I’m looking where I live of course.
Had typed a long paragraph about the snowfall mean posted in the big thread. Then I realized the futility of it and decided to just post the gist of it here ... snowfall maps are stupid
They won’t. The narrative is we can’t get snow unless it’s perfect and the line we walk is thin. Then it proceeds to an explanation of how we are on the wrong side of the line.
That was a curiosity for me as well. I realize that it’s my lack of knowledge here, but it’s always puzzled me how a weak piece of energy can produce a decent low pressure system and sometimes a strong piece produces nothing.
For me it was the cloud that developed right overhead that day back in the summer. I can’t remember the day that was. Someone I think said it was due to a jet streak whatever that means. But I was in the golf course and it was chilly. With the sun it was quite pleasant. A cloud moved in front of the sun and it was much less pleasant. I remember thinking once that cloud moves in it will be nice. But it just kept growing, never moving. Looking at it later on satellite was fascinating. It looked like it was about 20 miles wide and extended sw to ne across part of our region. I was right under it. Very cool weather event and further testament to just how boring the year was weather wise.
