  1. Inexperienced staff. Not used to the weather there. Not sure how often staff rotates, but even up here that can happen. I've literally emailed them at times to give a little advice with the lake. What I've seen over the years. Example: Last winter there was a long fetch from the NE coming from open water there across a nearly ice filled head of the lake. They had snow totals forecast around the head of the lake very low. Sent an email that evening letting them know that the snow would come much harder with all that ice keeping temps really cold, and so causing the moisture to precip out much quicker, and stronger than they were anticipating. The next morning, they up the totals more, but still low balled it for the downtown/west Duluth area that gets hit hard on conditions like that. Models can only give so much at times. Experience with lakes helps lots.
  2. Next is Groundhogs Day. Looking like a system moving through with potential energy on the southern end of it. Something to watch, and see if any significant development happens there.
  3. New year around the corner again. Is it me, or is time really flying. Anyway, The New Years day forecast is in the 2022 thread coupled with New Years eve, so I'll start here with MLK Day. Storm watch is what it's looking like. Might be a little something for the SE areas, too
  4. That's mountain snows on a really, really bad storm. That's toooo much, but incredibly awesome for weather buffs like us
  5. Looks like a close call here. My forecast running a little behind with the front moving into the region on Thanksgiving. Either way, a nice day for most of us.
  6. Last 2 days have see top 5 cold low max temps around here. It's cold man. Near average temps coming up are going to feel good.
  7. IDK either, was just curious. Maybe someone else here knows something about that stuff.
  8. Being from the north, you know what I see? A HELLUVA lot of work! LOL
  9. Noticed in the replies that news outlets want your vid for air. You giving permission? Just curious.
  10. 24" in Ironwood, MI this morning. Favored zones of the lakes getting hammered all around.
  11. LES regions of the lakes getting hammered. Ironwood, MI area reporting 24" this morning.
  12. And the winner is Hovland up there near the NE tip of the state with 29". Bam! That's just a wee bit of snow.
  13. 3.5" here in town last night, with large storm totals NE of me up the shore. BTW, it is still snowing up in these areas this morning, so a few more inches on tap for them as this won't be clearing out until late tomorrow. Incredible totals for mid Nov.
  14. So far it's been 2-6" around the head of the lake with 2" here in town from a band last night. Only one report from up in Cook cty from this morning in Hovland. They had 12" right on the shoreline there. I'm sure there is higher totals just inland this morning, as a 13.5" report came in yesterday evening from well inland in Cook cty. A pretty good snow for here by the shore. We usually get a mix this time of year. Inland areas always do better.
  15. 8-12" of snow reported this evening NE of me up the shore. Advisory went to warning. They low balled the storm totals, but that's the lake for ya
  16. Pretty much a steady light snow around here for the next few days. Heavier accum NE of me with LES in the mix. Off to an early start with the big totals. Light winds starting SE will gradually swing to the E, then NE before the really cold, blustery W/NW winds kick in later in the week.
  17. Going to be like Oct, very mild start, then the bottom falls out. Then probably back to milder weather late into early Dec. Then back to cold again in the midst of Dec. Wash, rinse, repeat for the rest of the year. That's the feel I'm getting looking forward, even into winter season.
  18. An while you guys were basking in the summer weather, BOOM, not so much for some. Ended with 1-2" just to the north, and west of here, but ND hammered.
  19. Going to get pounded with heavy wet snow. and high winds just west of me.
  20. Tough weekend, especially just to my west. LES should get cranking, too
  21. Granddaughter just moved out to around the Fargo, ND area this past summer for school. Blizzard potential coming up with this system there. I warned her to be absolutely careful with the winter weather there. It's a little different than here with the high winds they get out there than can make even just a little snow become dangerous with the wind.
  22. I guess you can call it "the season changer".
