  1. If you don’t love cold miserable rain, look away
  2. At least it looks like we’ll get plenty of rain to put a dent in the worsening drought
  3. This seems like New England will likely make up serious ground on their snowfall droughts. Call me skeptical about anything other than a mix bag for CAD areas
  4. That’s crazy. Look at Arctic sea ice. It’s going to blow the record low away, and it’s not going to be remotely close. I know there’s more to ice than just cold, but seeing record Arctic cold corresponding with a loss of sea ice is wild https://nsidc.org/sea-ice-today
  5. Wait, I thought we were throwing pre emergent this week?
  6. 2024 was wall to wall warmth every month finished above average at RDU. January 2025 bucked that trend
  7. That my 1.9” of snow on the season feels like a win is how bad it’s been. Not even halfway to climo…
  8. Winter ends Feb 1 now. I don’t care that historically February is our snowiest month, getting snow in February is as likely as getting snow in November now
  9. 18z GFS is a clinic is SER dominated weather
  10. Almost exact same here. Low of 36.9 this morning
  11. I’ll give it a generous C simply bc we broke the streak and had two events. Both events stayed below freezing and covered my street. Also, the cold was impressive and a pleasant surprise. Cannot sugarcoat meager snowfall amounts. My 1.9” season total leaves much to be desired. Also doing post mortem in January is probably premature, but maybe we’ll reverse jinx the sh*t pattern we’re heading into
  12. Oh she’s coming. When the always cold Canadian is throwing out mid 70’s in early February you can kiss winter goodbye
  13. Extended SER looks inevitable. Hope everyone enjoyed the winter weather they received
  14. Long range looks quite torchy with our good friend the SER
  15. Sad seeing this place die. Was a fun month
  16. Eastern Carolina’s are solidly in moderate drought with some severe drought areas starting to show
  17. 25.0 this morning. Definitely the last really cold morning of this impressive stretch
  18. I’ll go out on a limb and say that they probably meant the current pattern bc that would top some of the weenie cancel winter posts on here
  19. It’s been a fairly successful prediction last 6 years
  20. Looks to me like our stretch of Fail Februarys will continue
  21. 22.1 for the low this morning, almost feels normal now
  22. Post Tropical Cyclone report from Beryl is out. Winds up to 80 kts in Texas (up from 70) and way down to 80 kts (from 95 operationally) in the Yucatán. Somewhat surprisingly they decreased winds to 120 kts at its landfall in Carriacou. Peak was 145 kts so still cat 5
  23. I remember waking up to the sound of trees cracking and transformers blowing. That (5 days) and hurricane Fran (8 days) were the longest we were ever without power
  24. This is going under the radar but 74% of NC is in a moderate drought now and given the forecast that is likely to worsen going forward. We are definitely going to need some big systems, rain or snow, at some point before the summer or we are going to be in a bad situation given the dry antecedent conditions
