  1. I have to admit, I skip right past Tip's posts. No offense Tip. I'm not sure it it's the ADD or the engineer in me. Fox Hall, that brings back memories, especially during fire alarm induced epic snowball fights
  2. Tough winter. Here we are at/near climo's lowest temps of the season and most haven't seen more than one storm over 6". Second half has got to be better than the first, right?
  3. Not even an Alberta clipper. Whatever to those?
  4. There's not even any ice around here. I just set stakes in the ground and the frost is about an inch hit or miss depending upon sunlight. Maybe it's because the average high up there has been below freezing and certainly above freezing down here. I dunno. I'm not sure the Lowell area has seen an inch of snow since Christmas whereas I've nickel and dimed my way to to 15" up north. Today's just another example where the high up there was 27 but 40 down here. Usually it's only about 6 or 7 degrees. Maybe because it's been so much warmer than average at both places.
  5. January has been interesting. Much warmer than average in the Lowell area. If the ground is frozen, it's only the top inch or so. The temp gradient also seems greater than normal. While it's been warmer than average up north, it's not by much. I'm seeing the typical temp difference of often more than 10 degrees at any given time between Lowell and Thornton which is much higher than usual. I feel for the folks in SNE. This month has sucked!
  6. I got another inch or so overnight. Add that to the 2 or so inches from yesterday and it's got a very wintry appeal. It's odd, because I usually don't upslope at all.
  7. With the exception of the crowds (they actually stopped selling tickets), the conditions at Waterville were excellent, especially in the morning. I measured about 14" at 3500'. Down below about 3000' there was a thin crust layer under about 3" of powder from last night. Even though some trails were closed, folks clearly ignored the signs. Had just enough coverage on natural snow.
  8. About 2" of slop yesterday before the flip to light rain. Changed back to snow around 9. Another 2" since then.
  9. Drove up to Waterville. About 6" at base. Just wet roads in the valley. 1300' seems to be the transition zone where the trees are all caked.
  10. hearing reports of lot of power outages around me. I heard Waterville lost power. Webcam shows lifts not spinning. About 4" there per friend.
  11. Snowing but only 1/2" of slop. I hear it's accumulating 100' above me. I'll be going for a ride soon.
  12. dusting from what is probably low level aggregates. 32.4. precip has currently stopped.
  13. That's awesome James, congrats! Hopefully it hits the NYT best sellers list and you can move up 100' higher than Phin and experience snow.
  14. Hitter in the shitter. That's a big dump on Phin
  15. 12hr GFS, NAM 3k and 12k seem to want to hold onto the cold a little longer. Reggie is a soaker. Ekster/ Legro have confidence in their forecasts?
  16. I hope not. I definitely thought you would see a net gain. I'm hoping to ski BW Saturday.
  17. I agree, you guys will net gain. I think I'll maintain the 1" of water locked in snow.
  18. GFS definitely piqued my interest.
  19. The view of the Presidential's from the north is probably my favorite. So that's probably where I'd spend winters. Summers there too, but in SNE, I like the Onset area. It's essentially the Cape, but no bridge to cross. I like the beach, my wife grew up on Aquidneck Island. I know she want's a house on the beach, but I'm going to try to sell her on the Outer Banks. Can get there in a day's driving, land is affordable, and great spot for 'canes. Spend late spring, fall there and summers/winters up north.
  20. My ride to/from mountain is only 15-20 minutes, but that's all you need. Yes, it's been mild. Like I said, I only got the cough and it's been very minor (no longer an issue). One day of achiness. Today I feel 100%, but I know I may not be through the woods just yet. Weird, for the first time in my life I woke up with beautiful breath. I guess I lost my sense of smell a bit, but it's seemed to have returned. Very relieved. When I heard I was exposed, I'll admit I was a bit nervous because you never know how bad it's going to be. I have type O blood, and some say blood type may have to do with how bad it is, who knows? Cases are through the roof. Don't let your guard down.
  21. Initially it was the cough. Wasn't exactly dry. Got aches about 4 days after exposure, but since then it's been mainly the cough. The two others that skied with me are mild as well, but a neighbor is in ICU. Think of others and do your diligence. The season could be shut down.
