2013-2014 was well above normal snowfall in DC/Baltimore.

^^ It's really nice to see precip and cold in tandem now in the medium-ish range. Like really, really nice. Do I want it to snow? Of course...but it's still *really* early and even a very cold rain at the very beginning of December is a good omen, IMO.

No doubt that we're far, far, far better off with where we are now than with staring down a pig Pacific jet barreling into the West Coast all the way from Japan at 350mph. That shit is the suck. I'm coming into this winter with absolutely zero expectations and an acceptance that something (and I'm not necessarily hinting at CC) that we don't have a full handle of is/are THE driving force(s) behind so many people being wrong about seasonal forecasting in the last few years. We really can't do much worse than we have recently and I'm a big believer in the rubber band theory, so I don't think that persistence is the way to look at this coming winter. I suppose this is just a roundabout way of saying that any seasonal forecast I might have is based on "feels," which I realize wouldn't satisfy many around here.

Not only that, but plenty of recent runs have been showing potential in and around the first week of December. Even in the likely case that we don’t snow then, we’re getting hints that we might not be DOA this winter.

Yeah...50s with showers seems like perfect picnic weather!

There's a spot in a county park near me where the path drops maybe 8-10' as it turns along a creek and it's very often noticeably cooler than on the path before you make that drop. There's another little hill with a 12-15' incline right around the corner, so I think any cool air bleeds down and collects in an area with little to no air movement. It's a pretty cool little feature!

Around .45" here, per closest stations. Super raw day yesterday, though. It was pretty awful, even if we need the rain.

I have to drive my daughter to dance at 7:45. To say that I'm not happy about not being able to partake in multiple bourbons tonight would be an understatement.

...with a nearly perfect ridge axis out west and a 50/50 low.

This is *everything* that this thread is about. I can't thank you enough for posting it, Will!

It's really a matter of personal preference, but many of us experience changes in personal preference over the years. Sounds like either this is something that happened to you or you just weren't ready to experience something different until now, which is also something that is a result of the maturity that we gain as we get older. I've seen Phish quite a few times, but that was all in my younger years. I recently "re-found" them and now I'm dying to see another show. Hoping they play somewhere relatively close by in the next year or so. Would love to see them again and have my wife with me to experience it!

I'm starting to worry about this trip to HHI for Thanksgiving. I'm not interested in missing out on the Turkey Day MECS...

Looks like @dailylurkerwas chilling in that field this morning...

We and a few other families ended up getting a house at Wisp for a long first weekend of February next year. We went for a few days after Christmas last year and it was pretty awful even at the top of the mountain - pouring rain on the drive out and 45 degrees and very little snow on the slopes while there (but a couple inches of snow overnight on our last night). I suggested we go in pretty much peak season so I'm hoping to get a real winter fix while we're out there...but definitely wouldn't mind heading out after a nice stretch of winter back here!

I hate the idea of a warm Halloween. Not sure why...just annoying.

No thanks.

So it sounds like Cat 7 is on the table. Seriously though...that is truly unreal. Seems like you only hear about these kinds of measurements in massive super typhoons in the West Pacific. I saw someone from a town along Tampa Bay post on a friend's Facebook feed saying something like "I'm ready, but but not ready, if you know what I mean" and said he was sticking it out. That's just not a good idea. I understand the sentiment of wanting to stay to do all you can to keep your house and possessions safe, but in the face of a storm like this I just can't imagine deciding not to leave.

My beer drinking has taken a nosedive in the last year. Wife and decided that we needed to drop and few lbs, so one of the first things I did was to curb my beer drinking. By the time this summer came around I found myself rarely having a beer, and when I did it was usually some sort of light pilsner or the like. I figure I'll have a big stout from time to time once things actually get chilly, but for now I'm still enjoying my vodka drinks and crispy bois!

My parents sold their house in Zephyrhills (just NE of Tampa) back in the spring and decided to forego getting another second home. Curious to see how that spot fares, but I know they're glad not to have to worry about a property in the path of Milton.
