  1. It's looking real, but definitely a shot that this thing gets blocked to all hell and leaves us relatively dry.
  2. And the 0z GEM went all the way TF in.
  3. Would be a bit of a sh*tty weekend if that came about, but I guess I'd take it.
  4. I played around with it once - put one in water and then replanted. It would have probably worked had I kept at it (it was perfectly happy for a few weeks), but I have limited space and enough plants so I just left it to fend for itself...which didn't go so well.
  5. It's almost impossible to keep blight from showing up on the lower leaves by this time of the year, so it does make sense for folks with more serious blight issues to take steps like sprays to keep it from progressing. Healthier plants absolutely will remain productive despite some blight. Warm, muggy conditions will always have a negative effect if they last for too long, but keeping the plants pruned and allowing air to flow throughout the plants is a massive help. I mentioned earlier that I prune all suckers until the plants are 7-8' high (mid-summer or so) and I also get rid of lower leaves is and when they develop blight - this keeps the air flowing nicely (and I find it also helps with production in general).
  6. I like reading it for certain things because they have some fantastic mets and hobbyists, but otherwise it's a bit of a mess.
  7. I mulch with regular hardwood mulch - never thought about straw mulch. As I said, I don't really have issues with blight but might just try some straw mulch in part of the beds next season to see how it goes.
  8. That sucks...sorry to hear that. Any disease is a major pain in the ass, no matter the crop! <knock on wood> I've never had too much of an issue with it. I prune all suckers until the plants get to about 7' tall, then I let them go (usually by the middle of July or thereabouts). I also space them pretty well, so those two things together help with airflow and keeping the plants relatively dry. The leaves at the bottom always get some sort of blight as the season goes along, but I try to prune them when I can to help keep it from spreading.
  9. My tomatoes are absolutely rocking right now. Best crop in years! Cantaloupe are finally starting to come around, as well. Fall planting hasn't gone so well though, despite really good conditions after planting and ensuring proper soil moisture. Mache is germinating nicely and I have a few broccoli seedlings, but spinach is nonexistent (seems to be a theme for me) and the lettuce is underwhelming. Thinking maybe I should have started seedlings indoors.
  10. We *just* got clipped on the very southern end by the last cell that popped in Fairfax County at about 10:00pm. Probably about 0.1" total on the day, which was a little disappointing given all the action just north and west of us. About 1.75" total for the last week. Not bad, not great, but definitely not bad.
  11. If he ruptured his Achilles, then his career is likely over.
  12. These anecdotes sound like an absolute blast, but all it took was one misplaced lightning strike and you’ve got multiple dead and injured. It sounds a lot like people yearning for the old days and saying that we don’t need seat belts or bike helmets or other general modern safety measures because “we all survived being kids.”
  13. A hair over 1” yesterday in my part of Burke for a total of just about 1.5” over the two days. Feels quite comfortable this morning, as well. Hoping for some of those potential torrential downpours to ride up Pohick Creek today!
  14. Just saw 0.40" in the nearest CoCoRaHs to me from that same storm. Only rain we got, but that's decent stuff for a quick hitter.
  15. The last two days were some kind of bullshit for MBY in Burke. Got some at about 2:00 this morning as a storm popped over us, but that 10 minutes of rain was it. Hoping we can eke out a bit over the next few days…
  16. Corn fuel. Sucks to miss out today after a period of truly hot weather, but we go again tomorrow!
  17. But his last aleet was because he wanted to tell folks that the Euro output was showing *less* movement westward. We just watch the Euro come out and wait for him to post about it. Every time.
  18. MBY is sitting on the southern edge of the SLGT, which always gives me some pause. Better than being on the SW edge though!
  19. I hope it's actually running for you! Ours was really on the fritz, so unfortunately we needed to get it done now and not wait. Good thing is that there's a small HVAC company whose owner lives in our neighborhood and whose kids are on the swim team, so we have a pretty good in with them. Took until about 7:00 pm to get the units installed (just the owner working it), but things are working beautifully now!
  20. New HVAC getting installed today. Was nice and cool this morning, but it's starting to get a little toasty up in here.
