  1. Despite the continuous thunder which kept the dog growling and helped wake up the kids, which, in turn, kept us up all F...ING night(!), Burke registered barely anything last night. I’m bitter AF.
  2. Yeah...I’m not someone who complains often about heat, but it was bad today. From early morning when we took my oldest daughter to the bus stop for her first day of kindergarten to walking to my car at about 3:00 pm, it was muggy and hot. Looking forward to the upcoming rain.
  3. Because snow caves in roofs so often around here.
  4. Heard lots of good things about Asheville. My grandfather played baseball there after he spent his prime years in the navy during and after WW2, and he and my grandmother really liked it even back then.
  5. I agree with you on the faking aspect. I can’t stand it. I understand that players need to be protected to a certain degree, but it’s a contact sport, and those “skill players” need to be able to take it. I’m a Tottenham Hotspur fan, and I’m proud that Harry Kane is our talisman. He’s a player that puts himself on the line and is willing to take the punishment doled out by defenders. He takes it, gets up, brushes off, and proceeds to consistently put the ball in the back of the net. Fantastic to watch. I think we may get there in the future with the advent of VAR. And if FIFA ever gets its act together to push the federations/leagues to start using retroactive bans for diving/embellishment, then I really think we’ll be on track.
  6. Yup. We’ve got a lot of ants inside - really started noticing them a couple weeks ago. Pest control sprayed outside last week, but it’s had no effect, so we’re going to have them back out to see if they can do some careful baiting.
  7. This is one reason I never played football and prefer not to support it. I played/participated in pretty much every other sport available to me instead. It’s a bunch of meatheaded freaks getting their rage on, and it’s pretty sad, to be honest.
  8. Light rain and thunder. Exciting times.
  9. Likely? Not so sure about that.
  10. Here comes a Fairfax County split...
  11. Wife married into this, and the kids don’t have any choice.
  12. Christopher put his seat all the way back and pumped Lil Reese. It worked.
  13. My Lyft driver is getting thug as hell up in this Hyundai.
  14. Can be a few things, but bacterial wilt and squash bugs or cucumber beetles are the first things to come to mind.
  15. Thanks....that’s what I’m hoping. I appreciate the feedback!
  16. A little more research, a bit of feedback from friends and neighbors (I also appreciate the feedback on here!), and our bank account - all together. This isn’t something that *has* to be done right now. We may be pushing the life of this roof a little, but we haven’t had any issues, and it’s frankly not in terrible shape. I truly believe that waiting a few more months isn’t going to be a problem. Honestly...we made a rash decision without going through the whole process like smart consumers should. Wife and I didn’t feel comfortable with it at all last night. We’ve learned from this, and even if it turns out that the quote we had from this company was among the best we could get, then we’ll at least know that we’re making a truly informed decision on how to proceed.
  17. This morning we realized that we had a 3-day, no penalty cancellation clause in the contract, so we pulled the plug. Right call, for sure!
  18. It’s about $600/square. We’re getting the venting ( can’t remember the name of it) that helps with the ridge vents’ efficiency on half of the roof, so that adds some cost. The other half has soffit vents. We have double shingles. Drip edge is included, and we’re getting architectural shingles. Not happy about the total price, but it’s about what I expected. Still...ouch AF. No sh*t. We don’t have all that much scratch laying around, so it’s painful. Good luck. Hopefully you get s better deal than we do!
  19. Just committed to a roofing job that’s going to run us around $15k. Plywood could run us up to an extra $4800 if the whole deck needs to be replaced. Not happy. At all!
