28 here in Crossville now...yucky. Somehow the ground is still completely white though which is stunning to me as powdery as the snow was yesterday. Mostly cloudy but sun is peeking through currently.
-
16 in Crossville, partly cloudy. Hopefully the clouds roll in quick. It seems like yesterday's fluffy snow is already trying to melt a little or maybe it just compacted overnight. Just need the clouds to head our way now that the sun is up.
-
OHX also moved everyone up to a warning and my point went from literally no accums 5 hours ago to saying 2-4" now
-
Lol hopefully it will keep dropping for you. Since I posted that we've now dropped back down to 10 here so I jinxed myself. I'd say ours will stabilize out around that with the cloud cover though.
-
I'd say you're about at the bottom now. It got down to 10 here about 3 hours ago and is now up to 12.
-
The reverse horseshoe effect...that'd be an unusual one

Yeah they closed here again earlier, I don't see kids in your or my county going the rest of the week unless tomorrow night busts. I saw Crossville was reporting light snow a few minutes ago again too but I haven't got to go outside and look yet. My security cam is frozen over again so that was useless too lol.

The forecast here suggests a gradual warming overnight but we'll see. It bottomed out at 10° a few hours ago and now sits at 11°

Fall/Winter Banter - Football, Basketball, Snowball?
Shocker0 replied to John1122's topic in Tennessee Valley
It seems like I heard '93 had actually been a fairly mild winter until the blizzard hit. Could be wrong. I've watched a few videos of it on YouTube and it looked insane for sure. I believe it was also very well forecasted for the time period and most people had ample warning before it hit. Again I could be wrong but just some things I seemed to remember. -
Fall/Winter Banter - Football, Basketball, Snowball?

Yes there were multiple storms in February of 2015. I know here we had an Ice storm warning on the 16th and had .25 of ice. Then followed that with -5 degrees or colder for a couple days and snow. Then on Friday we were to have a huge warmup and that ushered in sleet which quickly turned to freezing rain and resulted in a ton of ice here. East of us got mostly snow in all of those events. There was also a big sleet/snow storm just a few days after the 21st storm which probably gave the kids there a few more days off of school. I saved a screenshot of our forecast for that week just because it was so crazy. The second, bigger ice storm happened on Friday night/Saturday morning which you see on the pic and put down 1-2" of Freezing Rain. We had to stay in hotels for over a week in Cookeville due to the power outages and the worst part was they would sell our room to someone else if we didn't renew it quick enough because everyone from Crossville was going there. We bounced around to four different hotels that week before I finally just paid for three nights at one since it didn't look like our power would be back on for a while. -

Fall/Winter Banter - Football, Basketball, Snowball?

In the 2015 one or 1993? They were closed here that long in 2015 but a lot of that is because power didn't come back on for over 10 days for a good part of the county. I vaguely remember the 1993 blizzard but I just remember the aftermath and it being really deep and playing in it. -

I have plenty of pics I could share from that event if interested. Worst weather event I've been through besides possibly the 1998 freak snowstorm in SEKY (I was only 5 in the Blizzard of 93). That whole week of 2015 was awful here. -
Lol oh yeah we were all rain for that event...just 24 degrees.
-
We've finally broken the cold weather barrier in East Tennessee wide open...now let it ❄ knee deep for the forum and we will all happily wander off into the Spring.
-
That's what I was thinking. Whatever they are using has been way off this winter though
-
It seems like I remember it being talked about before, I just couldn't remember how it played out here. I know in 2018 here we didn't have much snow at all though. I kinda think I remember it though and Knoxville got a lot more snow than us and we had maybe a dusting.
-
That's tomorrow nights low actually. They are saying it'll get to 37 during the day. It's hard to imagine at the moment, but it could get that warm. Wouldn't surprise me either way.
-
NWS Nashville seems to be going toward a similar solution (less amounts though) but 100 miles or so west of what most models showing. I noticed a Nashville TV Stations snow map looked closer to the above though as far as location of the heaviest snow.
-
Here in Crossville, too. It started snowing around 5am and has been all day to lay down a good blanket. It should melt quickly tomorrow but if it can even help us 1° here it could make a big difference. It didn't look like us here in East TN had any hope of snow from this event until about 36 hours ago so any snow is good.
-
I hope you guys get a good snow before winter is done. My sister lives in Meigs County and wants snow but I don't think they've had more than a dusting this winter at her house. Temperatures haven't cooperated for them.
-
NWS shows little or no accumulation tomorrow night in Crossville. This feels like it could be similar to last Sundays event here (if models continue) where NWS Nashville kept saying 1-2 inches for no real reason (QPF was high, atmosphere was ripe for snow) even though 99% of models kept showing 5-10" here for at least 24 hours before the event. The models ended up nailing it. I can see sleet and freezing rain cutting way down on the totals this time, but they're not really forecasting much of that either so maybe they anticipate a switchover to rain much earlier than most models. I did notice on their snow map they had the main snowfall axis about 100+ miles west of what most of the models posted in here are showing
-
Wonder if anyone knows when this event was. I'd be interested to see if Crossville was warm during it too since the Smoky mountains were.
-
TWC hourly suggests that temperatures will rise from this evening all the way until morning so that could be why, although this morning they had our high at 20 degrees today and that never came close obviously. Neither did the sunshine they predicted. We had 2.75" a couple hours ago and I think it hasn't snowed much more since but it's so light and fluffy it'll probably melt super quick tomorrow and not be of much help temp wise before this system rolls in.
-
I'm glad we have a potential event to track. About 48 hours ago it looked like we'd all be mid to upper 40s for both days, or higher. Maybe the cold spilled over the Plateau finally and will help everything perform better snow wise.
