  1. That's the only March clipper I can remember. We got 8-12 I’ll never forget that one. Definitely an overperformer. I was 8 months pregnant and driving from Fairfax to GT hospital for a job (I’m an interpreter). It was pouring snow here but I called my office in Silver Spring and it was barely doing anything there. I think we had over a foot in some areas. By the afternoon it was over and the roads were already melting.
  2. PWC is the one most likely to close for wet roads. I work in Fairfax, but doubt they would close earlier. They would have to decide by 10:30-11 am.
  3. This has been typical for a couple of years around here. We often go quickly from winter to summer and fall to winter.
  4. Why do we (almost) always have weekend rain or snow? This is getting ridiculous.
  5. Yay. Hopefully he won’t backtrack this time and ruin our chances.
  6. I’m originally from Waldorf, but always wanted to live in Fairfax as a kid because they had more snow than us. Now I’m in Fairfax and want to live in Loudoun! But I think Waldorf has had more snow than Fairfax in the past 3 years. They often do better with the southern/southeast storms.
  7. We’ve also had things get better as it gets closer in time. I guess lots of people were burned after getting rain instead of snow yesterday. However, I was in the rain the whole time, so I didn’t feel like I lost anything, other than dry ground.
  8. Some of us have missed most storms either north or south this year. We only got about 8” in the January storm too and nothing more than 2” since then. I’m all for Spring (if it’s actially warm), but March still has some opportunities in my opinion. So I would like to request a Miller A for next Sunday please.
  9. This has been a brutal couple of years of being on the rain/snow line in Fairfax County. The tendency has been for storms to shift close(either north or south) as we get to game time, but we sit just on the edge.
  10. At one point last week, we wanted to sacrifice the Sunday night storm for the Wednesday-Thursday set up around the 6th. Since the Sunday thing is weaker, Is there any chance for the midweek deal to come back? Or are we just chasing next weekend now?
  11. Not completely true. For the DC area, they said conversational snow changing to rain most likely, but they also said this could change and they will update this afternoon.
  12. Lol I rank the 2015-16 winter better. It was definitely in the top 20 this century though I agree. Getting 30+ inches in one storm is incredible. Although, many people on this forum complained about the ‘15-‘16 winter. It was my first year as an observer here. I don’t know if you were one of them, I’m just guessing...maybe.
  13. Thanks for the resources! I found the storm on the noaa site. And the historic winter storm page is great!
  14. I remember the 1987 Veterans Day storm, and then the 1989 storm right before Thanksgiving. I was in college in NC and was driving home to Maryland for Thanksgiving. My mom called me to tell me that it was going to snow, so I skipped classes and got out early on Wednesday. My boyfriend (now husband) and my roommate went home with me as well. We drove in rain until right around Lake Anna when it started to change to snow. The worst part was crossing the Harry Nice Bridge from VA into Southern MD. It was a stressful drive, but nice snowstorm in the end!
  15. I'm glad you can remember it! My parents got married that day in Maryland. The family story was that they followed a plow from Maryland to Williamsburg for their honeymoon. My mom passed away in July, but today would have been their 50th. I got me thinking about that snowstorm and trying to find actual documentation of the storm. I will check out some of the sites people suggested.
  16. Is there some place online to find information about past snowstorms (other than those that made the news?) I'm looking for March 1, 1969 for a snowstorm that hit Maryland and Virginia.
  17. Agreed. I remember winters without much snow, but the worst thing about this year has been the tremendous amount of 33 degree rainstorms.
  18. I think we have had several surprises and last minute changes this year. I feel pretty good about the odds for Sunday night. And there's always the 9 day storm to look forward to...
  19. I'm a little confused because we have 2 different storms going on in this forum. When everyone is talking about 2-4 across most of the area, that is for Friday morning, correct? The Saturday morning event is only for the far West and Northern MD/PA, right? Thank you for any clarification!
  20. And Prince William Closed for tomorrow. Of course. LOL. My daughter thinks we need to move.
  21. Glad to have some good news to start Happy Hour!
