I really feel we have allowed way too much outside noise affect wx forecasting. These models have no clue what to digest anymore. We have made something that was already complicated even more complicated. I believe the models should not be able to go past 240 hours at most.

I feel your frustrations. Being a BAMA fan, the first qtr against OK I was livid. All I hear is Indiana will kill us. I was hoping UT would beat IL. My gosh the banter of people saying the SEC is overrated just got louder. Sadly college football is imploding. I feel for schools like Iowa State & OK state. They literally have 16/17 players left on their teams. The portal & $$$ are killing it quickly. Who would really want to coach college these days. It’s a 365 days job. Pros is much more easier.

Maybe the cuts at the NWS nationwide is part of the reason the GFS is bipolar. Truly unbelievable how bad it’s gotten. I never thought the GEM would be scoring better than the GFS. Gracious next will be the JMA outperforming the GFS.

Definitely looks like some model watching is taking shape. GaWx has had some great info. on the other forum. Let’s hope we keep the MJO going.

Definitely could flip on a dime. If we get a -AO & MJO in favorable phase. That would be very impressive.

At this point the Euro suite is the only models to go by. Along with the GEM which is good at picking up on colder air.

Good gracious. The American models are should I say awful lately.

I have enjoyed this warmup. It definitely made taking down the outdoor lights easier. This time tomorrow it will be a 40 degree swing. That’s gonna hurt. Also I’m noticing the temps are trending downward in the forecast. Add to that days of precip. I noticed the CPC has the longer term ABOVE precip chances putting the bullseye on TN.

Where we want it is usually what we say.

I just feel like so much has been added/programmed into these models such as all these new teleconnections & polar vortex & who knows what else, that the models are a jumbled mess. I feel forecasts were much more accurate in the 70’s-90’s. Of course adding the amount of hours they go out to does cause verification scores to decrease. Also adding the 10-15 days forecast sure does not help. If I remember correctly, 5 days was the most back in those years. Honestly it would probably be a good thing if the wx offices did not release the 240+ hours to the public. Actually 120 hours is sufficient. I know I’m wrong saying that, I just feel we have made forecasting much harder than we should. Some of these models need to be axed. Like the ole DGEX model. How I wish we could go back to simpler times.

We did half yesterday & the rest today. Time to enjoy some R&R but also try to kill a mole or moles in my yard. Also do paperwork. Owning my own business means end of year taxes. Which my brother the CPA is asking for lol.
