It is not that simple. Cargo is big money. JFK has the highest value of cargo shipments in the US. Fed Ex has a major hub at EWR. Cargo is very important to the functions of airports. The immediate acute problem at EWR is one of the two main runways being closed. That will end in mid June. The other lingering problems include moving a bunch of disgruntled union employees from Westbury to Philly because they could not longer staff the Tracon on Long Island due to high costs and old housing stock. That will payoff long term as newer employees are more willing to live in the suburbs of Eastern Pennsylvania with its low taxes and cheaper/newer houses and they can actually FULLY staff the Tracon. The other long term problem is fully modernizing the ATC system. That needs funding and attention

I was there in Oct for a music festival and it was 100. Miserable

I dont mean to rain on the foliage parade, but the outlier isnt CPK…it is LGA…by far EWR…19% increase LGA…53% increase CPK…13% increase The LaGuardia number is way out of whack with the other two. Central Park may be a little low. but the LaGuardia number and what’s going on out there is highly suspect in being accurate.

AMEN. these guys that keep preaching drought on here have no idea what a real drought looks like. Hint…this isnt it. we actually need a prolonged drier than normal period to kind of reset things in the ecosystem around here. and yes, there will be some wildfires… But that is also normal. last go around on Long Island was probably mid 90s when large swaths of the pine barrens burned. Those same pine barrens are now being eaten alive by a bug.

LGA will probably stay on land 22 depart 31 for today. If the winds get stronger earlier than forecast single runway ops on 31 are possible. But that is not forecast til overnight hours

It throws LGA onto ILS 13 which crosses the final for the 22s at EWR atop TEB which effectively stops TEB traffic That is why they almost never use it!

JFK just switched to the dreaded ILS 13L due to winds. that happens less than five times a year. Always a nice brutal day for delays
