that isn’t hard and fast. Last December for instance.
The Boxing Day storm was a major storm…but there have been several December snows since then.
What we have lost is extended cold weather in December. If you want to look at a month that’s lost to a season I’ll give you September. But December isnt quite there yet.
Ironically the warmer Decembers have been coupled with cooler Novembers.
Only in this forum could you guys be talking about warmth and tornadoes on the coldest night of the year.
Just landed at JFK. With the wind it is brutal outside. Enjoy it
TOGA thrust takeoffs and sporty landings this evening Up and down the East Coast
I went to college in Daytona.
There were a handful of times when the temperature down there was colder in the winter than it was in New York City.
It usually involved the scenario you have posted here plus a cold front that cleared Florida but was hung up clearing the northeast… Which is also unusual because while Florida is to the west a cold front usually moves northwest to southeast. Think cutter scenario.
Temperatures would be in the mid 40s in Florida and low 50s in NYC. These scenarios always occurred on winter nights
I see that! JFK 55F at moment!
Good point on the ocean temperatures which never really cooled in October. This will come back to haunt Long Island in marginal situations in December
34F at 8 am. I really thought we were going below freezing when I saw 38° at 8 PM but I guess not
I don’t see any forecast that has central park getting below freezing anytime soon
The pattern has become clear…
Transient cold shots that last 3 to 4 days; 2 to 3 days well above normal.
A lot depends on timing
I’m not sure what constitutes a “big” winter:
1. snow
2. cold
3. both
If I was a betting man, I would go with 1 not 3…
Well when you have a September air mass in front of it… :/
In fairness it was quite cool this morning but it warmed up quite a bit before that passed through
Hang on.
Still in negative territory through mid month.
Second half looks very seasonal.
Let’s not make Nov sound like an impending torch month. By all indications, it wont be.
