  1. 150? are you sure thats right lol? either the Euro modeled the inside of a real oven or you made a typo lol It's worth it to get historic heat for one day don't you think? Who wants a boring summer day with a high of 98 or 99? So close but no cigar......
  2. still sunny here but the high here was at noon at 88, the sea breeze came in after 12
  3. wild were you also that cold on our coldest day in my life, January 20, 1985 the Reagan Inaugural, when we had a low of -2 and a high 7, the only time I can remember with a high in the single digits!!
  4. How was 1983-84 for you? We had a very hot summer that culminated with 7 days of 90+ in September including a sizzling 99 on 9/11 (our latest 99 ever) and a 95 on 9/23 lol. 1983-84 was a very cold la nina here with a couple of moderate sized snowfalls,. 4-5 inches that stayed on the ground a long time and we even went below zero (which we did in a few years during the 80s, Christmas 1980, January 1982, December 1983, January 1985.) It was our hottest summer on record before 2010.
  5. Okay so Howard Beach is too close to the water to match my readings, it's only 80 degrees there lol, while it's 92 in Corona. Even Ozone Park is 84, which is somewhat cooler than it is here.
  6. I've been up to 6 degrees colder than JFK on similar nights and 5 miles east of there lol Temperatures are ramping up here, now 88!!
  7. you probably experienced Belle there too!!
  8. I wonder why LGA is so warm at night (at all times of the year).
  9. simple solution : barbed wire electrified fence con ed places their sensors out in the open so can the park.
  10. do you think they will add wind direction to their numbers later? They have the equipment to record all weather stats don't they?
  11. Many of our heat records are from that period between 44-55 (1944, 1948, 1949, 1953, 1955 and then 1966 which was both extremely hot and extremely dry.)
  12. Both 2013-14 and 2014-15 were extremely cold here, the peak of the cold was February 2015
  13. wow I wonder if that was going into a big el nino? and it looks like your 1953 was as extreme as ours was!
  14. oh okay I figured it would be like a snowfall map which shows the totals in different parts of the area. are you going to be using the micronet to confirm temps? which of the 23 I just posted is closest to you?
  15. Just a snapshot in time, some stations are going up while others are going down, this will be fun to track through the heatwave.
  16. why does it show just one number instead of the projected highs all across the region?
  17. It's fun to track these micronets, Corona has hit 90 already Howard Beach 82, Ozone Park 84 Tremont in the Bronx is 89 as is Fresh Kills in Staten Island Water temp near 59th street is 74 East River water temp is 57 Manhattan Mesonet 85 Brownstone Brooklyn 87 why don't any of these show wind direction?
  18. why is Con Ed fine with putting all their equipment out there and the Central Park people hide their sensors behind trees? Why dont they just surround it with an electric fence and anyone who tries to touch it gets zapped?
  19. But not in Nassau County, why not? I'm going to use the one in Howard Beach which is the one that's closest to me. The one in Corona whos cam I just saw is in about as artificial a climate as I have ever seen, a concrete parking lot lol
  20. Looking at the cams for all these micronets, the one at Corona looks to be in the middle of a concrete parking lot LOL.....about as artificial an environment as you can get.
  21. hmmm AI says that Nassau County is part of the micronet, the closest one to me is in Howard Beach lol AI Overview Yes, Nassau County is part of the New York City Micronet, a network of weather stations providing real-time data. This network is managed by the New York State Mesonet and provides critical information for various purposes, including utility operations, climate change monitoring, and power infrastructure planning. The New York City Micronet is comprised of 22 weather stations and is maintained by the New York State Mesonet. This network is designed to provide real-time weather data, which is particularly useful during high-impact weather events. The data collected by the Micronet is also used for long-term climate change monitoring and for understanding the needs of the power infrastructure.
  22. https://www.nysmesonet.org/networks/nyc We need one of these for Nassau County too!! The NYC Micronet The New York City Micronet is a dense network of 23 weather stations, 18 owned by Consolidated Edison Company of New York, Inc., and 5 owned by the NYS Mesonet. Collectively, the Micronet provides critical real-time weather data during high-impact events for utility operations and long-term data for monitoring climate change. These data are essential for understanding short to long-term power infrastructure needs. The New York City Micronet was designed and installed by the New York State Mesonet, and the Mesonet continues to maintain network operations. Ten sites are located at ground level, eleven sites are deployed on roof tops, and two sites are located on a pier. A majority of Micronet stations measure air temperature, relative humidity, precipitation, and pressure. A mix of stations also measure wind speed and direction, solar radiation, snow depth, soil temperature and moisture, surface (skin) temperature, water temperature, and water level. Micronet data are collected every 5 minutes, quality controlled, archived and made available to users in real-time. The 18 Con Edison sites and 5 NYS Mesonet sites located in NYC are shown in the data display below.
