  1. Better to have a snowy February.
  2. Don what makes you think that there's very little chance of something like April 2003 happening this year? I dont think at this time in 2003 we thought that something like that would happen either. Sometimes we get a surprise snow even in the middle of a mild pattern and those things can't be forecast more than 24-48 hours in advance.
  3. Andy Pettitte pitched through a snowy Yankee home opener in what would be my favorite game and season of all time.
  4. I loved that storm! JFK got about 5 inches and near blizzard conditions out by the Hamptons and over a foot of snow (16") in Suffolk County. Andy
  5. That might be the only time we've had snow on Christmas Eve and St Patrick's Day
  6. and we could pick up 0.5-1 inch tonight and another 0.5-1 inch on Friday quite easily.
  7. Looks like half inch to one inch of snow possibilities right to the coast on Friday
  8. I remember we got another 1 inch at the end of the week too, April 10th? What a week that was. Where in the Poconos, near I-80? N/S?
  9. It also happened multiple times in 1996. March and April. As a matter of fact the specific scenario you described happened (started as rain, high pressure pressed in from the north, it changed to freezing rain, sleet and then snow from north to south.) Watching the transition was pretty exciting, as it happened during the day.
  10. Didn't Cheyenne get over 36" from this storm?
  11. it was an icy glacier which is why it stuck around (along with the extremely cold temps in the teens). April 1982 also stuck around for a week- IMO that was even more special.
  12. amd it was funny how JFK had just as much or a little more snow than NYC even though the changeover line moved up from that direction. That storm would have been extremely historic for us had it took a benchmark track, but either way Jan 2016 would eventually have beaten it for us. IMO Jan 2016 should also have been rated a Cat 5 storm but they did not take into account the 30"+ measurement at JFK.
  13. ended up being a three footer at Cheyenne and over 27" at Denver their 4th largest on record. Interesting that Denver's biggest March snowstorm was in March 2003, when they had over 30"....that also came at the tail end of a big drought like this one did, and we had a snowstorm in April a few weeks later after a pretty dry March (which came after a great February)...think we can do it again? 2002-03 Dec (above average snow), Jan (below average snow) Feb (much above average snow) Mar (below average snow) 2020-21 Dec (above average snow), Jan (below average snow), Feb (much above average snow), Mar (below average snow) Granted 2002-03 was much better than this season and one of the elite winters we've had. (graded as A+)
  14. lol thats awesome, I wonder what the record is for the highest temp at which snow has been seen falling? and also the highest temp at which snow has been known to accumulate I remember hearing that ACY had snow showers in the low 50s back in March 2010 I think it was?
  15. That was the first 10 inch snowstorm at JFK that started out as an inch of rain lol. I was so annoyed that the changeover line took so long to get here. That storm and March 2010 were the beginning of the windy noreasters, we had a similar period in the 90s that started with the Perfect Storm.
  16. all gorgeous- my favorite is the one with the blue sky background
  17. JFK must have been really low too, especially when they hit 70. Funny, I thought October had the driest air.
  18. Do you have any low humidity records for your station?
  19. wow 1966 really dropped off the cliff.....was that graph compiled using tree ring data?
  20. I guess real spring begins at 75 around here lol
