The highest temp I ever remember in June for here is 98, even in late June and with a WNW flow. It's very hard to hit 100 here in June. But it does prime the ground for what can happen in July, as a lot of those years where we hit upper 90s in June we topped 100 in July..... If you look up JFK 100 degree summers, more often than not it was 95+ June 20-30 ..... It becomes very difficult to hit 100 again in August, because always seems to be much more humid than July. I think the last time JFK hit 100 in August was 1983, though not sure about that? Upper 90s almost seem to be as likely in early September as they are in August. 98 seems to be our peak here in any summer month outside of July (and I consider September to be a summer month now.)

How come the June heatwave of 1966 isn't in this list? I think that was the only time JFK hit 100 in June (once) and three more times in July! The above June heatwaves look pretty good, but compare them to the heatwaves we had in April of 1976 and 2002 and they're not much better than that (except the one from 1925 which had multiple days near 100)....

I was thinking 2011 also, and remember what happened late in July in 2011 When do you think the heat will peak over our area? Before or after the 12th?

1999 would be amazing if the analog rolled forward to July....1994 not so much. Wasn't 1994 the year where we had an early summer but the heat peaked early and we cooled down for July? But there was a vast difference between NYC and Philly, and Philly was almost as hot as they were in 1993? I'm curious, why can't we use 1991 and/or 1993 as analogs, those were two of my favorite summers. 1991 and 1993 were both two of our hottest. Also what about 2011? I see that in the list too. I only remember the amazing heat in late July, but it looks like June was extremely hot too. August was extremely rainy though so not the ideal summer.

Wow the late season cold really did a number on the May avg temp. Will this May end up cooler than last May, Don?

I would also like to know if the volcanic eruption in the Caribbean had any influence in this.

Does anyone have any images of the spectacular supermoon total lunar eclipse? Couldn't see it here because it happened here during daylight and after moonset, but I'm hoping someone has some nice images to post! I'm just heating my bedroom lol. Whenever I go to another part of the house it feels like winter! This really is March like weather. I heard tomorrow the sun is going to come out I'm going to do my BBQ then! I hope we all get to enjoy some sun tomorrow so we can at least say we had a good Memorial Day!

Chris, do you happen to have the hi/lo temps for those top Mays? I dont remember any of those storms lol. 1984, 1989, 1990 and 1998 So weird that 1989 and 1990 had them on the same date, back to back years!

Got one for 1944, Uncle? That was part of the 11 yr cycle and was a stand out summer for that decade. Got a historic hurricane that year too.

It seems to happen every May now, Don, why didn't we get these kind of aberrant arctic shots in May back when I was growing up in the 80s?

We didn't get this kind of weirdness in the 80s, I wonder why we get it now?

It doesn't take all that long to dry out the ground anyway. I dont think 100 is possible here in June anyway because it hasn't happened in my lifetime, however the heat of next week should dry out the ground nicely, thereby setting the stage for 100 degrees in July. It's like a cold airmass that comes in before a snowstorm, dropping the temperature of the ground and priming it for a big snowstorm that will start to stick right away.
