  1. I'm starting to think we wont see 100 in our area this summer. Maybe upper 90s like the last few years. Do you have any early forecasts for the first half of July?
  2. and bad farming practices, and we also have some really bad farming practices going on right now. Regenerative farming needs to be adopted everywhere
  3. wow 128 and 123 for Death Valley and Palm Springs?! Do you think this is the peak of the heat or could it possibly get even hotter in those places?
  4. the first year I ever saw the Perseids was the best year ever for them.....August 1986, weren't we down in the lower 50s with crystal clear skies?
  5. Coastal cities were mentioned- those coastal cities may not even exist 50 years from now!
  6. Use the health argument....higher asthma rates and worse air quality and higher levels of pollution and thats why we're switching to electric vehicles. A lot of the dirty polluting fossil fuel factories are built near urban areas where minorities live and thats not by accident.
  7. we also need to transition away from animal farming or at the very least limit it or change the way we do it.....like nature does it.....dont need to chop down trees and feed cattle lemongrass to limit emissions. Better for our health to limit meat consumption too.
  8. wow 1999 and 2011 are on that highest heat index list a lot too. Impressive that they calculate it to hundredths of a degree lol. Most of the days on the first graph had highs at or above 100. Interesting that none of those highest dew point days on the second graph had a high temp at or above 100?
  9. it's like 1983 was a warning shot for our hot humid summers and 1977-78 was a warning shot for our snowy but not very cold winters lol
  10. not too bright? you want it to be a red dwarf lol? or are you rooting for an eclipse that lasts all day
  11. How extreme 1983 was with over 80 inches of rain and our 90 day high record along with record high humidity.
  12. Nice list.... a couple of additions if you could add these: Historic freezing rain event Jan 1994 Jan 2016 historic blizzard Feb 1983 historic blizzard April 1982 historic blizzard
  13. 1980 is also top on your list for longest period of 80 degree average (60 days I think?)
  14. 1983 really seems to be like an early warning shot of the type of summers that have become more common in recent years
  15. Could break that there tomorrow and even make a run at 110! Amazing at that elevation and proximity to a large lake.
  16. Looks like Needles and Death Valley were the only ones to exceed 120 so far.
  17. must be difficult for planes to take off in that weather
  18. wow and JFK hit 100 both those years....94 in 1972 when JFK hit 100 must've been one of the largest gaps of temp between the two with JFK hitting 100.
  19. we've been very slow to change because of a "wait and see" approach that just means the changes that need to be made will have to be made on a faster trajectory. The fact is the changes to our climate are no longer theoretical, they are very tangible now. Megadrought in the west along with massive expansion of forest fires, much higher humidity and rainfall in the southeast and midatlantic regions including the NYC area. Tangible rises in sea level that has lead to a rapid increase in sunny day flooding, in cities like Miami and Charleston. Evacuations of residents being made off barrier islands off the Lousiana coast because sea level rise has made those islands uninhabitable. Climate change causing the death of food crops in Central America resulting in mass migrations north. Much more soon to follow.
  20. I see some amazing things going on in California https://twitter.com/i/events/1404519631667216389 It has the best economy of any state by far and is already 21% powered by solar energy!
  21. wow interesting, all the wet was along the coast.....and to my knowledge there weren't even any tropical cyclones for us that year.
  22. I wonder what the heck happened in 1983 to set all those heat records at the same time as having the wettest year on record lol (it was JFK's wettest year on record too?) Thanks for the list, those are some of my favorite summers! 1983 had 2 100 degree days at JFK and just 1 at NYC?
  23. wow how often does Medicine Hat reach 100? I'm familiar with the region from Calgary to Medicine Hat to Brooks to Red Deer up to Edmonton, can't say I've seen it reach 100 there much.
  24. with better education and lessening the influences of religion one would hope that population growth tapers off on its own.
  25. Yep, we see that in other industries too, like bio and chemical engineering.
