  1. on to the next? NBC has been talking about another big one for next Sunday and then an extreme shot of Arctic air.
  2. lol it seems to be a semi permanent feature. The only thing happening here are the extremely high winds
  3. I dont know where you guys are getting this snow from lol it's been zilch here since 1 PM and people are out shoveling it now
  4. a few things might be at play 1) ocean temps are way way above normal (talking about mid to upper 40s) 2) dry air worked into the system from off the ocean and dry air coming from the ocean is usually mild 3) everything was sped up so what was supposed to be happening tonight is happening now As it is it didn't really matter because the sleet only lasted for half an hour at most and then all precip just stopped.
  5. they are spoiled by Jan 2016, thats a one in 30 year storm in terms of how widespread the extremely high snowfall totals were west to east, most snowstorms are more comparable to summertime thunderstorms in terms of who does really well vs who doesn't- primary cases include Feb 2006 and Feb 2013, both of which were amazing but only over small areas. Rarely do you get big storms that are great for large areas, thats why the historic ones are so rare.
  6. never really thought this would be a historic storm for the highly populated areas, but over a foot is really good, plus looks like we have another coastal coming for next weekend.
  7. it didn't just dry slot the skies brightened lol, people think the storm is over and are out snowblowing.
  8. snow ended here about an hour ago so I figured I would measure it....14" no snow no sleet, nada outside for the past hour except for high winds and blowing snow, 29 degrees.
  9. Visibility is a lot higher now, there's still some snow, with a lot of wind and a quick burst of sleet from to time. Skies are also brighter now than they were before. 28 here...winds out of the NE gusting to 35
  10. Thanks- but if the 700mb low is east of you wouldn't that mean that the surface low is too far to the east? Or is it a case of you want the 700mb low to be only a little to the west of the surface low? And so if the 700 and 500 lows were to the east of the surface low, that would be bad since the storm would be weakening? Vertically stacked lows sound a lot like an occlusion.
  11. sounds like it's based on precip rates so between bands it sleets and in the bands its snow. by the way sleet is still considered snow in measurements so if sleet is accumulating it's still considered an accumulating snowfall lol.
  12. interesting anatomy of these storms, would this kind of thing not happen if the storm was vertically stacked? also, are there ever cases where these "assistant lows" (the 700 low for example) are to the southeast of the main low?
  13. you're right it literally just got here, but the visibility is still zero outside lol. Must be snow and sleet mix
  14. unfortunately there is definitely sleet here now, I hear it pinging hard on the window air conditioner I never took out lol
  15. I dont know man, dont temps usually drop during very heavy snow? you usually get mixing when precip lightens up and then temps rise.
  16. I think along the same lines however I remember the same criticisms being made for no hurricane warnings for Sandy, granted this system is going to have much less of an impact than Sandy did.
  17. those are just approximations there has been zero sleet here with this storm and it's a white out outside
