I found it really alarming when I found out Norfolk Southern is so happy they are now allowed to make trains longer than they should be and that particular train had a nickname that made it pretty clear they knew it was a ticking time bomb. They fully deserve the incoming lawsuits.

2002 spring/summer oncoming.... and stay tuned if it turns into a winter next year similar to 2002-03 ;-)
-
I've hit that same infuriating number three times already it hits 69.4 a few clouds move in, it falls back to 66 and then it clears up again, rinse and repeat. It's so annoying I want to put a blowtorch to my thermometer just to get it over 70 lol
-
This is just as fun as hitting 100 in July
-
so the moderate to strong el nino of 02-03 changed all that?

My Winter Outlook for 2022-23
LibertyBell replied to raindancewx's topic in Weather Forecasting and Discussion
February has been much drier though, nice sunny and warm. -
I just sneezed lol
-
The measurement in the NYC area was so off for Jan 1996 lol. You could tell it was a lot more than 20" What happened to you in PD2 and Jan 2016?
-
well it certainly rose really quickly, we see this in the summer too with west winds after a night of radiational cooling 70 within reach here now
-
this would be 100 in July I love the west wind! we should hit 70 here soon with all this sunshine
-
yup approaching 70 here
-
It's getting close to 70 here too and full sunshine the SE Ridge is going to hold back clouds until after peak heating so we should all hit 70 today
-
it really was a once in a lifetime event (until Jan 2016 lol)-- none of these other events in between those two or before or after measured up to me (except maybe February 1983). The unchallenged greatest snowstorms (only 20"+ snowstorms here) in chronological order are: February 1983 January 1996 PD 2 2003 January 2016
-
yup Jersey shore down to ACY did better too
-
Don was the record at JFK, 44 from 2002?
-
wow radiational cooling with clear skies
-
better radiational cooling-- I've seen this before low humidity and clear skies, our temps drop This isn't the case at Islip though? Maybe they are more urbanized
-
JFK not on this list Don? I think we'll get this record too Record high is in the mid 70s though? I hope it stays sunny through at least early to mid afternoon maybe we could see 70
-
last winter was actually not bad, it was about normal for here
-
The main sensible differences between this year and 89-90 are-- it was colder that season (even when it was warm it was still colder than it is now, and of course December was a lot colder and we had these near snowstorm busts too) and we had a Thanksgiving snowstorm.
-
That was a very good winter and would have been historic were it not for the March bust
-
this winter is out of the 89-90 playbook I feel like I've been reliving it ever since late December, I was using that analog going all the way back to Christmas
-
lol maybe the triple dip la nina ushured in a snowier era after 2002
-
Because of the cooling sea breeze? Because it sure hasn't snowed here lol
