I don't see how this wont beat 2001-02 especially since it looks like late February cooled down in 2002? Jan-Feb 2002 was nowhere near as warm as this one is and December was closer to average this time, not overly cold.

I mean there are only 3 months in each season, winter really only begins late in December and ends late in March. December did have the el nino kind of pattern, it's why we didn't get any snow.....el nino's are typically back loaded while la nina's are typically front loaded. The el nino front end and la nina back end is the worst possible combo to have.

lol you can be funny when you want to be, but this of all winters, you really don't need to make fun of anyone....this winter itself is the biggest joke EVER
-
we've had heavy rain most of the morning here
-
woah thats scary the pH of this rain should be tested
-
at our latitude this is usually the case

These kinds of things usually trend north with time and New England does better

1958 - The greatest snowstorm of the mid 20th century struck the northeastern U.S. The storm produced 30 inches of snow in interior New England, including more than 19 inches in 24 hours at the Boston Airport. The same storm produced up to three feet of snow in the Middle Atlantic Coast Region, with 14 inches at Washington D.C., and 15.5 inches at Baltimore MD. The storm resulted in 43 deaths and 500 million dollars damage over the Middle Atlantic Coast States. (David Ludlum) Was this the storm that dropped 30" at Babylon?

wow those records are just from last year lol
-
oh it's pollen all right, my allergies were really bad yesterday when it hit 71 on Long Island
-
Oh no, I guess it comes down to the last week?
-
My bad day was yesterday lol
-
Yes sea level was probably different back then too, at one point Long Island was attached to CT (you can see it from the shape of the coastline along the Sound.) Greenland ice cap melt and also the melt now observed in Antarctica may be what tips sea level rise over the edge.

Funny I was using that map to look at the extreme snow drought in the Alps where it hasn't snowed much in years and people have been going to the ER for trying to ski on small patches of snow
-
Europe ski areas have also had no snow, the Alps are barren and that's where their water comes from Those areas have not been getting much snow for a few years now.
-
was Feb 1922 the three day snowstorm? that never happened again
-
The problem with GW is all the other horrible things it is doing, our local snowfall is a minor concern. Also, it doesn't look like a geometric progression, once we reach a certain threshold, GW will rapidly accelerate (and so will sea level rise.) Those of us who live along the coast probably won't be able to live here by 2080.
-
I think that was a south block too but the last two years were worse.

so the value of using these indices as predictive tools is now decreasing correct Chris? They mean something different from what they used to mean, so analogs have much lower value
-
the south block is the new pattern of the last few years
-
it took some doing but we are close to matching 2001-02 for DJF temps, think we exceed it and set the new record, Don?
-
They should instead tell them about the ones that had to go to the hospital because of respiratory distress, including an entire family.

Islip and Bridgeport beat their previous records by 12 and 11 degrees that's pretty amazing
-
Officially hit 70-- 71 at Islip is amazing for Long Island in February too!
