  1. Some areas really need the rain but I consider this a regression back to normal for us because we have had some anomalously extremely rainy decades. Just need to control the foliage for wildfire season.
  2. The best place to be for getting consistent snowfall is in the mountains. It doesn't even really matter north or south as long as you are away from the ocean the chances of getting snow are better. The Poconos had 36-48 inches of snow this winter which while below normal for them, in an absolute sense is a good amount of snow.
  3. Yes but the highs are all above freezing, so it's not that bad and actually quite normal for early spring.
  4. it hit 67 on Saturday, that's when we can say spring actually started. These very short meaningless shots of cold are actually quite normal in spring.
  5. wow and thats without any snow cover
  6. Interesting, NYC warmer than PHL and JFK likely even warmer than NYC.
  7. no highs lower than the 40s though
  8. we'll have spring thunderstorms. it's a normal spring storm.
  9. This is why 40" of seasonal snowfall can't be considered historic in NYC, but 50" most definitely is. We have had 40" in warmer winters like 05-06 and JFK received 40" with 40 degree average winter temperature in 15-16.
  10. what are his analogs now? 1955-56 and 1966-67 lol?
  11. Probably. I think we'll still have lows at or below freezing, but probably not highs in the 30s again after Monday.
  12. it just seems highly unlikely we see highs in the 30s again after these two days.
  13. Even last winter was better than this one. People look at it as a *single digit* snowfall winter but it was actually double digits over most of the area including here (more snow here last winter than this one.) And if anyone remembers last winter at all, Central Park undermeasured several storms last winter otherwise the snow total would have been very close to this one and definitely double digits. February last year was MUCH better that's for sure.
  14. interesting we had a strong el nino the following winter....
  15. wow it happened twice in 1972.....
  16. Looks like after this 2 day cold wave, we'll have highs in the 40s and 50s for the next 10 days plus. This might be it for high temps in the 30s.
  17. I'm a little shocked that the percentage of EPS members that have 1 and 2 inches of snow for NYC is that high. Figured both would be under 10 percent.
  18. How many times has Central Park gone from the 60s to the teens or lower within 24 hours, Don? Also, what was the low at JFK? Thanks!
  19. 70 degrees in the Poconos too- NICE!! 61-63 here which is pretty good too.
  20. so we're talking about another westerly wind heat burst instead of the southerly wind which makes it chilly here?
  21. I never liked the way they showed fronts on weather maps. The lines are way too thick and I'd much rather they show a very thin line that updates every 30 minutes to show the precise location of the front (as in which town it's currently in.)
  22. I think you're in the extreme minority
  23. The 80s heat streak in March 1990 was more extreme than the one in March 1998 which occurred at the tail end of the month.
  24. Did JFK see a similar drop, Chris??
  25. and our high of 67 on the 1st almost certainly won't be the warmest temperature we see this month!
