  1. Exactly what I've been saying! Even February 2018, which was MUCH warmer than the current month, had more snow than this month has had!
  2. 10-11 probably had more snowcover than any year I have ever lived through, the snow was literally up to my windows, it felt like being in the Poconos on the south shore of Long Island! 14-15 was right behind it and had the coldest month I have ever lived through here in February and with our snowiest March of my lifetime!
  3. February can be mild and you can still get more snow than you had this month, remember February 2018?
  4. I think he needs to move to Miami or something since he hates snow so much.
  5. also, there is no real connection between climate change and snowfall where we live. You can get either extreme.
  6. you know as well as I do those early season snowfalls were undermeasured at Central Park, use the average of the airports to see the real snowfall in December, it was around 3.5 which is about average.
  7. But you seem to think *canonical la nina* means no snow, thats not what it means and even in the hyper warm February 2018 we had more snow than we had this month.
  8. No they were not, they were actually worse There is still -NO WINTER- in recent memory that matches the absolute frustration that occurred between 1988-89 and 1991-92, which not coincidentally was also near the solar max. To be clear we're talking about the late 80s, not the early part of the decade. We're also cycling back to a drier pattern like we had back then.
  9. my two favorites were 10-11 and 14-15 95-96 and 02-03 even better but those were a long time ago
  10. you could, looks like totals will be higher to our north and west. slightly higher....
  11. not sure what good a -NAO would do with that fast northern stream. it hasn't helped us yet.
  12. oil and even propane is probably better than so-called *natural* gas (really methane).
  13. I think they jack up prices during peak demand, I've gotten four figure monthly gas bills here in January for a few years now.
  14. and I'm not sure if many people understand this or not but most of our snowfall average consists of front enders, we very rarely get 6"+ plus snowstorms that are all snow.
  15. I don't see how it was *luck* anyway since the PV was well forecast to do what it did and we have a bunch of analogs that match exactly what happened.
  16. People don't care because blocking didn't seem to do any good when it was here, they want a change.
  17. are you serious?! mine is always over 1000 in January and you live in a much colder climate (it's windier here though-- I REALLY HATE THE WIND!)
  18. Yes, the wind wastes all your heat, it's the main reason I hate it. I keep my heat at 70 and the space heater in my bedroom at 80.
  19. I like cold too, but wind is absolutely useless. I fully understand we need cold for snow but in no way shape or form do we need wind, it can go away and has.
  20. I knew December 1989 would pop in at some point. If we see very little snowfall this month and it stays cold it should be our #1 analog.
  21. there is a large snow shield right now all the way up to Detroit. Where is that large snow shield all going to disappear to I wonder?
  22. Outstanding Don! What about since 1970, Don? What about NYC's coldest month with less than 3 inches of snow, Don? (and since 1970?)
