  1. Thanks, SG, they also lead to more below zero arctic outbreaks. Are we close to entering another one of these periods? It seems like we've been in a +AMO forever (since 1995 I think?)
  2. But we are also cycling backs to a drier period as the historic all time dryness October-mid November period showed. I strongly suspect we will get another period like that this year, likely in the early part of the summer this time.
  3. Don, is this why no one ever talked about the EPO before the early 2010s?
  4. yes it's cyclic and worth noting, wet and dry are also cyclic, we have entered another dry cycle.
  5. looks like cold and dry except on the boundary of the arctic cold.
  6. yes the 2000s were much snowier, but before that the 1980s were our least snowy decade. Snow goes in cycles (unlike temperature.)
  7. el nino Don? DJF all had major snowstorms!
  8. Tony, it's rare for NYC to get double digit snow from a storm that dumps on Vermont and Albany like that too!
  9. north america is such a weak ass continent, we need to get our cold air from asia/siberia because north america is simply too small
  10. sunrises have just started to get later too
  11. so only the last 3 days of the month will be milder
  12. lol no idea how JFK is warmer, is their *normal* colder to begin with Tony? what are the actual mean temperatures through the 11th?
  13. wow 1980-81 had multiple below zero arctic outbreaks? I don't remember this one but I sure do remember Christmas morning 1980!
  14. the way I could see the Deep South getting more snow than us is possibly because the oceans are warming much faster than the land is, so maybe being near the ocean will be bad for snow going forward and it would be better to be in Arkansas or Northern Georgia or in the Carolinas, regardless of latitude.
  15. we have two really cold shots coming, this week and the week after.
  16. also this damned wind. the wind is what increases my fuel costs and makes me feel cold not the actual temperature.
  17. Yeah and this is exactly why those guys should -NEVER- be allowed into the hall of fame and all their *records* need to be wiped from the history books.
  18. it's not just about home runs but how his on base percentage spiked way high because no one wanted to pitch to him. He didn't have the talent of a Ken Griffey Jr. He was very good but not on the level of the greatest.
  19. omg I knew him from before steroids, he was very good but not great. nowhere close to a .400 hitter Ken Griffey Junior was MUCH better (in all phases of the game.)
  20. in my book any month that averages under 32.0 has to be considered cold, but it's nothing extreme. No lows in the single digits, so nothing out of the ordinary.
  21. looks like our local airports were all around 0.5" too Don?
  22. it affected some hitters more than others. I can guarantee you that at least 50% of Bonds home runs were because of it.
