Curious to see if we get a brief flip back to snow later. Since winds never turned easterly we didn’t warm up. Not a fan of this lighter precip which will accrete better.
I don’t see a flip back to snow. Probably good because it would just throw down a layer of slush to freeze up tonight.
holding steady at 31 with ZR

I have about 2.5”. Temp still stuck at 30-31 which I’m thinking is about as high as I’ll get.
Upton revised highs in NW Suffolk down to 32. Temps done ticking here for now. We’ve seen this before. Models underdoing low level cold.

Ticking up now, we will make a run at 33-34 imo

Temps ticking up a bit now on the island, let’s see if we break freezing
-
Farmingdale dropped from 33-32 last hour, ISP at 33, but PNS around the airport at 32. Maybe a NAM win for the ZR. Lots of rain coming up the coast…could be power outages if we accrete all of that ice

What would they plow? You need salters for days like this. Roads are wet going to icy
My street was plowed no less than 4 times this morning between 4 am and 7 am. Ridiculous.
roads are going to be an absolute nightmare later. Temps ticking down closer to 30 now with steady freezing rain.

Latest HRRR doesn’t really get NW Suffolk, N Nassau into the city above freezing. May touch 33 very briefly. By 3-4pm temps start crashing behind the front and maybe a brief flip back to snow.
Yea temps have flatined around 31 LIE north. Even the north fork is below freezing still. At work in Melville and there is ice accretion in the trees now

If we keep NE wind we won’t rise much if at all. Seems to be a coastal front near the twin forks where temps are in the upper 30s, let’s see if that can make headway west.
Upton extended the WWA until 7 for Nw and SW Suffolk, was set to expire at 10 am. Smart move. Side streets are a mess

Temp keeps dropping out here. This is a problem.

Yikes. Temps dropping now on the north shore. This isnt great.
-
Temps have stabilized a bit at 31, probably too out around 33-34 still
-
Gotta say Upton nailed this event for the island. Kudos to them.

31 now with sleet, roads should be fine now, schools made a good call with the no delay

Right-some sleet and rain at 33-34 will just mean it all hardens into cement later today. I doubt we lose much unless it gets to like 37-38 which I doubt.
My guess we top out at 35, 38-39 on south shore and east end

Snow is fighting back. Probably 50/50 now, snowing may be winning out

I highly doubt it. HRRR has freezing rain for a while here but at 32 if it’s heavy a lot would just run off. We have that issue with the easterly wind we normally have but it may just get to 33-34 which would melt off very little.
These temps are spiking quickly. Upton says 33 for the high but we may blow past that. Would be nice if the coastal started cranking so the wind would shift
-
Sleet now and 30. Temp rising quickly now. Hopefully we don’t lose this snow

Dumping snow before the mix mine, the walk I shoveled all covered again.

Heavy burst about to come through the island. Per CC it should be snow north of the southern state…temp spiked to 29 now with snow in commack
-
2” or so here in Suffolk, still snowing and 28, more coming in. Definitely not a bust here. Not even a delay on the schools though

Up from 25 to 26 now with light snow. Looks nice outside but it's also a total snoozefest so far . All these KUs over the last 2 decades have really changed the game for me. I hate that so much.
Agree 100%. It’s 25 here and snowing but pretty boring. Snow without wind is pretty lame. Snow less than 3 inches even more lame.
we never even used to make threads for 1-3” nuisance events. Times have changed

Amazing how steady the temperature has been for the past 4-5 hours. Just holding at 31, barely any movement at all.
