Heavy burst about to come through the island. Per CC it should be snow north of the southern state…temp spiked to 29 now with snow in commack

2” or so here in Suffolk, still snowing and 28, more coming in. Definitely not a bust here. Not even a delay on the schools though

Up from 25 to 26 now with light snow. Looks nice outside but it's also a total snoozefest so far . All these KUs over the last 2 decades have really changed the game for me. I hate that so much.
Agree 100%. It’s 25 here and snowing but pretty boring. Snow without wind is pretty lame. Snow less than 3 inches even more lame.
we never even used to make threads for 1-3” nuisance events. Times have changed

NAM and RGEM have consistently shown that freezing rain risk after about 9 am or so, but the globals either have all snow for 95 or a later changover to sleet or freezing rain. Freezing rain sucks, as it's dangerous and aesthetically unpleasing. Saving grace could be that it'll mostly be falling on top of snow, forming a crust and not falling on bare ground forming ice rinks. It also could rob many of us along 95 and even a bit NW/SE of 95 of 0.1-0.2" QPF (or 1-2" of snow), which would also suck. Hopefully the Euro is right on this. Thoughts on how this might play out?
That’s ugly, yikes

Interesting. Upton sees Suffolk all the way to Nassau border going to plain rain for 7 hours. Not sure any model has that. It also increased some amounts to 3.5 or so for western Suffolk. Will be interesting to see. I doubt we hit the forecast high of 38. Temp busted low today as well

Near a quarter inch of freezing rain for parts of LI and SNE. Could get nasty.
Yet no WWA for Suffolk. I would assume that changes soon

We're lucky there's so much precip before the warm air really arrives. Hopefully when that happens most of the storm is over. But regardless it's so hilarious to see another of these late big amped/NW pushes, which makes sense since we don't have any blocking to force a good track and the mean trough is so far west. The easterly winds will warm us up for a time east of the city. It can be as cold as it wants now but that wind shift warms us right up. But it will be brief.
We’ll have a nice all snow event Friday. All good.

I’m unemployed till January 29th. So. Maybe I’ll drive to Montauk if that’s the case. Maybe Jim cantore will be there
Long way to go. So far this looks like a nice event for us. Cold, storm well offshore and plenty of room for it to come west.

29/9, so this is a nice airmass for a change. Fridays airmass even better.

Eastern Suffolk may get a nice storm on Friday. This one of those where Montauk gets 8 inches and the rest of the island 2-4”.

I’m close to the Nassau border so hopefully I do ok
All of Suffolk west of the forks will get at least an inch. I think you mix with rain for a bit, and I get some sleet/ice here

NWS decided to leave Suffolk county out of the WWA
NW Suffolk should be in WWA in my opinion but the criteria is 3” of snow so I get it.

Congrats to all under a WWA. Bubkis out here in the tropics. I got called out for calling for mostly snain for the immediate coast, and lo and behold….,
You’re going to get snow stop. Maybe take a break from posting or post in banter?

Still a question of where that banding shows up. Other Hi-res modeling like the HRRR introduce more warm air and have the best snow NW of the city which is still quite possible. Models all do have at least 1-2” though so the ground will be white at least.
Sucks we will mix but I think Friday delivers the goods for the city and east. Solid ensemble support now. Friday our chance for a 4+ storm.

Potential extensive winter event, I-95 west and with again a chance for NYC first inch(es) of snow Mon or more likely Tue Jan 16, 2024 (serves as OBS thread as well)

These temps are spiking quickly. Upton says 33 for the high but we may blow past that. Would be nice if the coastal started cranking so the wind would shift
