  1. 37 this AM. Hoping to seed the first new lawn area on Monday.
  2. Watering the deck and was surprised to see no less than half a dozen monarchs. This front must be scooping up a bunch of straggling seasonal birds and insects and escorting them south.
  3. Was surprised by a hummingbird hitting the feeder hard today. Refreshed all the feeders and hoping to feed them.
  4. GFS has a monster cutoff low for the start of October.
  5. Wonder what, if any, impacts there are from the number of US landfalling tropical cyclones and temp/precip the following winter.
  6. A damn good thread on improving tornado warning accuracy, it includes a couple of radar grabs from Frederick County, MD. Big takeaway is this research so far is only valuable if the storm is within 60 km (37 mi) from the radar site.
  7. You're probably right, it seems we are more like North Carolina climo or tidewater of VA these days.
  8. We have everything going against us into this winter. You'd think sooner or later the tables would turn and we'd have a shot for at least climo.
  9. Odd. It appears that Camp David (KRSP) is visible in my AWIPS II thin client, but not on GR.
  10. 44 for a low this morning in Reisterstown. My garden is abruptly coming to an end, I'm hoping we can salvage the last of our squash this week before ending things.
  11. My weather station comes tomorrow...it pours today. Ironic.
  12. Turkey Branch in Rockville rose 7 feet in <1 hour, Sligo Creek @ Sherrill Dr rose 4ft <1 hr. ~50 waters call between 12pm and 2pm Montgomery, about 20 required some kind of FD action.
  13. Everything you need to know: http://www.raymondcmartinjr.com/weather/2011/26-Dec-10.html
  14. Have it 34 and rain at the start to wipe the salt off the roads...no help from chemistry! Then vodka cold for a week!!
  15. This season is such a low energy bust. There's not even been a decent fish storm with nice satellite presentation.
  16. While I know you cannot advect radar, the regional mosaic appears to be lighting up.
  17. I get Vietnam-esque flashbacks from that event.
  18. Someone did a story of October snows greater than 1" at BWI, MDT and DCA. The results were pretty close to 1:1 that showed more than 1" in October with the exception of 1 year (2002-2003?) was warm and well below average.
  19. October snow is a death kiss for a good winter in these parts.
  20. Would love to see a 6"-10" Christmas snowstorm this year. Something that covers the ground. It starts right at sunrise and goes all day. Then clears out just after sunset and you get the see that stars. That alone would be great.
