  1. We're now in summer...frogs crawling up the back sliding glass door, singing to their hearts delight, and the cats are having a freak out.
  2. After years of dealing with needles killing our back lawn, clogging the pool/gutters, and ruining the deck, we got the approval from our neighbor to remove about 10 large pine trees from the fence line. Hopefully in the next two weeks they will be gone.
  3. BWI, 102° (because of the controversy/climate change conspiracy theory) DCA, 100° IAD, 101° RIC, 100°
  4. This is a great period of weather for transplants...cool, cloudy. I've never lost a transplant when we have weather like this. A good shot in the arm will be taking some of the Miracle-Gro water soluble tomato fertilizer (yes this, not the blue stuff) and watering your transplants with this mix in about a week. It has a lower nitrogen content so it will help promote root and stem health. One good application should do, and that will bolster the plant(s) before the hot weather comes in.
  5. You can never post enough pictures like this in the garden thread.
  6. Ours was approved in Baltimore County...it has to be at least 5 feet from the property line, and at least 10 feet from and overhead power line.
  7. How large of a pool in diameter and how deep are we talking about?
  8. Don't waste your time fishing it. It's shallow and fast moving.
  9. DC gained it (mostly) recently: https://wamu.org/story/16/03/25/dc_now_has_budget_autonomy_but_what_does_that_actually_mean/
  10. We have about a dozen tomato seedlings in a cold frame and will be putting them out this coming Saturday. We lost our tomato seedlings about 5 years ago in PA in early May to a rogue frost in York County and learned a big lesson.
  11. States, counties and cities with rainy day funds will emerge with the least impact on tax burden on residents and businesses. DC is a prime example of this since they don't have full budget autonomy and get impacted pretty heavily during partial Fed shutdowns.
  12. How did everyone's garden fare? IMO, if we can make it to Wednesday I think our gardens are fine for the summer. Looks like I've lost some salvia and petunas in an elevated deck box but otherwise made out pretty well.
  13. Definitely looks like a I-66 to US 50 and points south risk.
  14. Yea, good LIs are a sign of the capability to really sustain updrafts and we've seen some pretty cold temps upstairs of late so I could see a couple of big hailers ripple off the I-81 corridor and trek into NOVA. Maryland is probably out of this one unless something big shifts in our favor.
  15. Sunday screams big hailers and structure for I-66 south.
  16. Ordered these today...so psyched: https://www.rareseeds.com/store/flowers/zinnias/purple-prince-zinnia
  17. @FXW176 your tomatoes are suffering from excess rain and cold ground. Bring the plants inside at night to maintain soil temps of at least 60 degrees and they'll start popping.
  18. Going to dethatch, aerate, and overseed the lawn on Saturday. We're starting to turn the corner with a manageable lawn and it's really making things look nicer. I don't want a golf course, just something that isn't dead weeds and bare patches.
  19. NWS Charleston, WV just issued a flood watch for their eastern zones so I wonder if/when CTP and LWX will be hoisting a watch.
  20. More likely we get flooding. If you read the morning AFD from LWX it sounds like we're getting a flood watch later today.
  21. Solid cell near Ellicott City. Putting down some continuous CG and spiking VIL a bit.
  22. SPC issues SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH until 21:00 UTC
