Haze and smoke smell spreading into Upper Manhattan and the Bronx from Palasades fire in NJ.

I havent seen any, but Central Park is reporting light rain. I wonder if it will be measurable? We've come this far might as well get the 0 rain for Oct in the record books.

Temp down to 63. I knew it'd be limited to near 70 or so, but lows 60s is surprising. Don't know how much of a factor a sensor sitting above a flood yday, now a muddy mess affects it.

I'd imagine it's close but I also get not wanting to use that extreme warning except for the most catastrophic events. NYC micronets show about 4 -5" in the last couple hrs in the Bx, with rain still falling. Sharp cut off too, rest of the boroughs just quarter to half inch of rain. My backyard measured 4.5" with heavy rain still falling. There was street flooding deep enough for city buses to take on water.

92/75 after a low of 80 this am. Felt like a weak sea breeze on a NE wind is trying to come in but doesn't last so far.

Got to 91 today. Sneaky 90 degree day to end the month. Don't believe Central Park did, but LGA could put together a little heat wave now.
-
Another late heat surge bumped the high to 98 around 7:15pm.
-
Currently 83/70 after a low of 78. High is 90 so far (89.6) at midnight
-
90/72 now. It get to 88 or so and keeps rising back to low 90s.
-
Temp quickly jumped to 91, after an earlier high of 92 and drop to 86 with dew near 80. Dew now down to 67. Got rid of some of that thick haze as well

91/77/105 ugh Gotta watch if/how that morning rain affects Central Park. They been relatively dry allowing it to keep decent pace temp wise. Bulk of rain missed me just to my south so I didn't see how heavy it was.
-
Funny how 90 dew 64 feels kinda nice now, especially in the shade
-
Beryl is Cat 5 now wtf

Wow that was fast. Warned storm was a 90 sec gusty downpour. It looked impressive on radar but that must of moving incredibly fast. Sun is back now.
-
Alot of the heat precautions that exist now came in the aftermath of that Chicago heatwave. Almost 500 direct deaths and actual death toll estimated to be closer to 800. I don't remember cooling centers etc being a thing until after 1995.

97/dew 69

overnight low was 79, now 95. Micronet a mile away is 96. winds nearly calm to a light SW breeze.
-
It's become a semi common occurance along a stretch of NJ Transit/Amtrak tracks in NJ. I believe the overhead wires lose tension and then the problems begin. They do emergency repairs but until a wholesale upgrade happens this will continue all summer.
-
High 91 then slowly falling, now 89

Yeah I agree. I think it comes down to the NWS not wanting to create a headache for themselves. The status quo is fine for them. From their perspective it's not worth dealing with just to appease a community of weather enthusiasts. We have the typical airport stations if needed for high quality scientific purposes. I believe the media could do a better job emphasizing other reporting stations too. NYC does not begin and end with Central Park. I saw on TV someone saying how NYC averages 15 90+ days a year. It sounded so off to me. I can't remember the last time I was limited to 15 or less days. Weather apps tend to point me to LGA as the closest official station so that's the stats I see first. Then the Central Park stats quoted on TV sound disconnected from real life urban conditions.
