Flake size pretty solid at the office in Rosemont. Looks like a legit snowfall outside for once instead of the varying intensity crap we’ve seen all season. Let’s overachieve and restore some faith in winter tonight.
Have been staying with my little dude about 6 miles south in Vernon Hills because my daughter has the flu. Just drove home to check on her/the wife. A bit more snow here. I’d guess...
About 1.9”
Got about an inch or so last night before it shut off. Temp stayed slightly above freezing the whole time, so it wasn’t stacking well, and some melted/compacted. Coming down good again now.
Radar doesn’t look half bad for once this event.
...
Gotta say... as someone who lived in Lakeview for 8 years and then moved onto 2+ acres in the woods (in the burbs)...
Lakeview is kind of like the suburbs of the city. Just sayin’.
Just shoveled the walk out front. Maybe it’s because I’ve gotten used to snow on top of a layer of liquid, but this is a pretty powdery dry snow. Definitely not the 8:1 ratios mentioned earlier in the thread. Sucks that it’ll rain on top of it.
Kinda surprised at the amount of snow on the ground up here in Lake County vs what had accumulated down by O’Hare. Closing in on 3”. Granted my drive home took ages.
Fully expecting 1.5" of snow/sleet followed by drizzle > into the freezer for the weekend. Tips of grass blades won't get covered.
This forum will be a giddy place when we finally get a solid snow threat with no risk of mixing/garbage.
We’ve had on and off flakes since I woke up (aka the kids woke me up) this morning. At times it has actually looked pretty legit. It’s still only accumulated about an inch on the grass. Whatever happens this evening, I’m just glad we didn’t get the ice.
