0.85" in Randolph so far. Stein is basically dead up there in terms of actual conditions on the ground. I'm sure from an academic perspective there is still technically a "drought" in place in terms of overall water deficits.

Randolph was above average. 207" on an average of 185" (over the past 12 years at the CoCoRaHS site, at least). But looking at the daily record that snowfall number was boosted by the observer being obsessive about measuring every little snowfall. There were many major thaws and melts. The number was also boosted by some big snows in April and May, basically garbage time scores.

I have never spent any of my hard-earned money on a political campaign and never will. More power to those who donate heavily if that floats your boat. I couldn’t care less who “represents” me in Congress. I couldn’t feel more disconnected from someone. Just find any random person and let them do the “job.” Fine by me. So much money wasted on this nonsense. All flushed down the drain.

I think a lot of the energy is more local than usual. Americans have spent way more time literally at home or close to home than ever before this year. I think it's caused a more localized worldview and increased level of interest In local issues, such as lockdowns, quarantine policies, business closures, school policies, law and order, etc. People realized their governor and state legislature wield much more power than the President when it comes to COVID policies...

I can believe it. I was just commenting that something made of stainless steel exposed to high heat and then cold (air or water) over and over is something I would expect to degrade faster than expected. I'm sure many of us have had stainless propane grills that develop rust spots sooner than we expected. I have thought about buying one of those, however. They are certainly nice-looking.

Just anecdotal, but it feels like seasonal forecasting accuracy has somehow gotten worse over the years. I swear the seasonal forecasts I saw back in the 2000s and early 2010s were at least as good as a coin flip. Now they seem like they are not only always wrong, but way, way wrong. Are more people relying too much on seasonal models with essentially zero skill and ignoring contrary signs or not hedging and smoothing the forecast a little?

I've had plenty of all stainless stuff rust out over the years though. There are different grades of stainless steel.

I am more worried about being dry. A month-long dry spell like September is pretty lame, although breaking it with 2-3 feet of snow would be OK. LOL

The culvert the county just dug in the road leading to my driveway to prevent washouts has had standing water in it for days now. I am happy to see that again. Normally there is a ton of water around here and flooded basements are a much bigger concern than dry wells.

As much as they can, people should be preparing to hunker down until the spring. The fall and winter are going to be very ugly on a number of fronts. If I lived in a basement apartment in any major city or owned a business that requires physical interaction with customers in that city, I'd be nervous right now. The death blow is probably coming between COVID and unrest. Call me crazy, but there is a reason I bought a house deep in the mountains...
