  1. It was kind of weird that the CoCoRaHS observer measured exactly 1" from 12-7. Seems a little too clean to me. I'm guessing that's just because his manual gauge was full. I assume he has some other method to catch any overage once the gauge fills up?
  2. Just ordered one! Will be able to compare next time it rains to see if my PWS is off the mark.
  3. I'm not sure how accurate my gauge could even be since the rain blows sideways here constantly.
  4. Looking at my station history, there are no weird spikes on the rain totals. It just gradually goes up. So doesn't seem like an obvious malfunction. I was tracking closely to the CoCoRaHS observer through 12 AM yesterday (he had 0.31" I had 0.24"). But he says he received 1.00" exactly from 12 to 7 AM. My gauge says I received 1.95" during that span. LOL Not sure what happened there.
  5. No, just my weather station. There is a PWS on wunderground fairly close (down on rt 2 in the main town) but it doesn't appear to have captured any precipitation data. I have plans to get a second small setup somewhere else in the yard so I can do some comparisons. Either way, it rained buckets here and I am satisfied with that.
  6. Yeah, his reading has me doubting my reading a little. I will wait to see what his final report looks like. Obviously many variables at play.
  7. Been getting blasted for hours now. Rain gauge just crossed 3 inches, not sure I believe it. It has been pretty accurate all summer so far. I guess I have no reason to doubt it now. Maybe the wind is affecting the reading?
  8. Weather station says I gusted to 50. Drought will be busted here for sure.
  9. Got blasted overnight. 2.4” now and water came in my front window.
  10. Radar looks set up for another decent slug to move in here soon.
  11. Just when we thought 2020 couldn’t get any worse!
  12. Wow, there is an actual blob of real precip headed towards my house. It's been a while.
  13. Better practices in the nursing homes could cut deaths almost in half compared to March-May. We made a lot of mistakes early on. Spent more time worrying about the beaches than the LTC facilities... also, "ventilator shortages."
  14. This debate is honestly pointless because after Election Day, America is done with COVID. It will quickly drop completely off the radar (it's already become mostly background noise). That's not to say the virus will be gone. It will just no longer be advantageous to harp on it non-stop.
  15. Sure count them. Just factor in the corresponding drop in deaths from ARDS, pneumonia, congestive heart failure, and general organ failure from past years in that population to get a better view of the real "excess deaths" toll. There is no hiding that COVID-19 is really only truly deadly for people age 65 and up with major underlying diseases, despite the persistent narrative that young healthy college students are dropping dead left and right. People under 25 should fear the flu much more.
  16. Probably not, when you analyze based on quality-adjusted life years and factor in the up to 50% of victims who were 80+ with existing major underlying diseases who were in hospice/nursing homes already... Yes, it's sad they died, but a cold or stumble in the hallway could also be deadly for them. It's kind of disingenuous to put those deaths in the same broad bucket as the vibrant 30-something mom who succumbed.
