I feel like businesses will have wide latitude to take whatever precautions they want to in the name of "safety" and "public health." Judges will say it's more important to "stay safe" than ski... just the reality of where society is with this virus right now.

Oh yeah, no doubt you need to clear debt with high interest rates and short repayment windows before you go off buying investment land.

A very wise decision. Land like that never loses value in the long run.

My wife and I already avoid the Conway area. Too many Massholes. LOL We like staying in the very rural areas. The locals are welcoming and great, honestly. Berlin needs our dollars more than Conway anyway.

I have been saying for a while that there would be major logjams in VT and NH because people can't/won't get on airplanes and travel elsewhere. They are all staying local and going to places they can reach within a day's travel by car. I am so glad I bought north of the Presidentials. Just saying. Conway/Jackson/Bartlett area is a total mess.

Everyone has different levels of risk they will tolerate and people handle this tradeoff between safety and convenience differently. There is no one-size-fits-all solution.

As long as people stay out of the lodges as much as possible, skiing should be one of those activities that can proceed close to normally even with COVID. Everyone wants to be socially-distanced while skiing even without a pandemic going on.

I am pretty certain we will look back in a few years once the political aspects of this have cooled off and the general consensus will be COVID wasn't worth destroying our economy and financial health over. Just my two cents.

That's very true. I am not trying to work at a physical office or retail location in NH, it's probably a different story for those folks. I also know I'm in a fairly off the beaten path area. We do notice a little bit more of a "heightened awareness" of COVID when we are in North Conway, for example. We have been chalking that up to the large numbers of tourists from Mass kinda bringing that vibe with them however. It does seem like VT has chosen to go on one end of the COVID safety spectrum, whereas some states like FL have been far at the other end. I've been into VT a few times for various things and it does seem like just anecdotally more things are shut down and restricted there than in NH. That said, I haven't seen any hostility from anyone, but as noted before I am pretty oblivious to all that and couldn't care less anyway, as long as I am following the rules.

I'm sure a great many wife beaters and generally shitty people smoke marijuana on a regular basis. I wouldn't make the leap that marijuana users are all just happy-go-lucky stoners.

I'm afraid property taxes will be going up in many places, correlated pretty strongly to the states and municipalities with the biggest budget shortfalls and most draconian lockdowns. It will only make things worse in the long run for these areas.

I plan to give you tons of dirty looks in NH this winter. Brace yourself. My disapproving gaze will shame you at every turn. I may even go on the closed Randolph Facebook chat group and say mean things about you.

I was mostly posting in jest. I personally don't find it too likely out-of-state cars are being vandalized and people are regularly being confronted, but I realize some people have a different definition of a confrontation and may be bothered by nasty looks and the like. It is also 2020 so I guess I can't rule out windows getting smashed over license plates. I just ignore all that stuff, especially if it's just some old local granny smirking at me. LOL

This issue must be localized to VT. I have had zero issues in NH and I stick out like a sore thumb amongst the locals there. Everyone seems really glad to see me. LOL

I figured the local ski places might be more jammed than usual because people aren't flying anywhere and will choose to spend their vacation days close to home, within the range of a day trip.

Very true. Our season passes only allow us to ski on weekdays, and we are fine with that. I don't mind skiing on very cold days. I have skied in -teens a few times. I am always hot when skiing. But the kids will likely complain.

This was our policy even when we skied up north. At least on normal days. Yeah, the -25 days will likely be different. May just boot the kids at home and toss them in the car and drive with the windows cracked.

We were always the types who put on our boots at the car and went straight to the lifts anyway, so we aren't expecting a big change on that front. With kids, once you enter the lodge money starts getting spent. LOL
