  1. Good luck! A lot of things would have to go very right, but maybe there's a sting in the tail.
  2. The demise of the snow day in many places made me quite sad. Predicting snow days at the age of 9 was what led to a life long pretend career in meteorology. Telling people you guarantee a snowday then walking in shame faced the next day to a home room full of angry and spiteful kids. Talk about pressure.
  3. Correctly demonstrates narragansett bay snow hole. Lock this in.
  4. There will definitely be some oes atop the rain, and we will get some snow at the beginning. If this thing was some deep wound up cyclone, I'd agree with you, but it isn't. Its an unremarkable system with a ton of moisture and a nice setup and cold enough air elsewhere. It's also moving too fast.
  5. Coastal weenies have been through too much, and live in a constant flux of paranoia, delusion or resignation. Snow in dec here is bonus snow. I assume things aren't going to work out, I watch models to figure out exactly which way they won't work out.
  6. My obstinate pessimism (aka a nod to climates/microclimates) shields me from the rollercoaster ride that are these model runs. Mostly. This one stung. My 4" of slush IMBY looking very plausible.
  7. This looks so promising, so I look forward to getting 4 inches of slush.
  8. My crocuses are flowering. May see daffodils before end of Feb at this rate. Then, the soul crushing, damp coastal spring...
  9. I was abroad in December, and have yet to see more than a dusting of snow. Time is running out for me on the coast, with nothing in sight. It has felt like an English winter, most of the time. Worst in my memory.
  10. That sucks, but what is actually true doesn't: you were buried.
  11. I had a great day, I won't complain that where I live got less snow than literally everywhere I could drive to in about an hour and a half. That's nothing new, and I wasn't expecting anything else. But... when Newport verifies a blizzard, in name only, because the "airport" just 3 miles north of here, and not in this town, gets 50percent more snow...
  12. I'm flabbergasted about Newport. Guess it doesn't hurt when the obs isn't in Newport and is in one of the largest open spaces in the state. Crazy.
  13. A bit of a wet kiss goodbye and maybe I'll limp my way into 6+
  14. Also, I'm a mile north of there, which sometimes matters with this island.
  15. I did but in two measurements, and the second was very, very drifty so had to just average around the yard. It's somewhere between 4 and 5. Well thanks, but i take no pleasure in being right, and even my barely informed pessimism will be way high.
  16. Don't worry, be happy. At least I fully expected this. All modeling showed the best for me as a front end thump, and that flipped too late. Weird storm. Enjoy your bands.
  17. Bands dying right when they hit the bay. Its always that oes burst that dies. Worst snow of the event now and brightening skies. Real stinging sand out there. Are lucky that we didn't flip faster because the frozen slop is weighing things down. Power has gone out a couple times. 5"
  18. There isn't a chance that newport has experienced blizzard conditions for 20mins today thus far, let alone long enough to verify. We've largely been in relative subsidence for the last 2 hrs and despite the gusts, which aren't consistent pixie dust hurtling by in brightening light isn't dropping visibility near enough. Providence on the other hand, per the radar at least, might have a shout.
  19. I measure 5" on the columns of my porch... sideways. Can I count it? That was back breaking shoveling, I'm glad I got the slush out of there.
  20. It's a sweet antidote to the last one, that's for sure. You should sail past a foot.
  21. 2.25" in Newport so far. We've had some great bands pass through, but none of them want to hang around that long. Still, even the stuff in between is accumulating now, and it's a little less wet. Snow in daylight is the best. If it keeps up, and there's enough underfoot, I'm keeping up my sacred tradition of cross country skiing to my friend's house with a bottle of macallan. Who knows if this is it - in all likelihood it is here. If you are fretting over total snow, and you are out of it, better luck on the next one, if you are fretting on not having more snow, but are in it, get outside. There's zero snowfall on the computer screen. Now, to shovel paste.
  22. This is borne out here, as expected. Had my typical weenie wakeup, was hoping the band at 130 would have flipped us so we could start accumulating, but the first three hours have yielded the lightest dusting on grassy surfaces now. We've definitely lost a couple tenths already, and will lose more to poor ratio and slow accumulation till we get going. This is as expected. It was modeled too, I just don't buy catching up entirely, which is part of why I've been pretty confident in betting the under down here. Hoping my next wake up is that Christmas morning feeling. I certainly have the anticipation.
