Yeah. This is going to be mood snow. Definitely more of interest in sw and long Island but there's a very very low ceiling here.
-
Gfs is more impressive all around and a lot less flat. If this keeps ticking I can see it being fun on Long Island. Couple more ticks and I might get measurable snow!
-
Substantially more interesting the more West you go along the coast.
-
Nobody gets to complain about interminable, muddy, cold springs who isn't in within a few miles of the coast. If the sun doesn't spend 80 percent of every day burning off the pea soup fog, then you don't have it that bad. Not having it. It would be like me complaining about a heatwave at 88 degrees. It's still too hot for me, but I try to think of the less fortunate.

Cross country ski track. I've been doing like 7 km a day a block from my house. But same difference.
-
The snow is melting super fast here. Don't think my track will make it through the week, even with the nighttime lows. Sun angle is real.
-
The pond near us has the texture of corrugated roofing. Given I like cross country skiing just as much, and can do it in the uncleared parts, it's a tough ask. Pond hockey enthusiasts are making do. As cold as it has been, nobody has sprung for a Zamboni.
-
Hasn't been great for pond ice though. Too much snow and wind.
-
Feels much warmer than it is. Clock is really ticking on winter in the bay, it gets pretty hard for it to snow in March here. The drifting from this last storm was impressive. The cemetery where I have made my cross country ski track is full of four foot drifts, and they're still moving. Absolutely fantastic winter for fun in the snow. Weeks of pack for skiing after years of not cracking double digits and I think I've got a week to go.

Friday February 6 FROPA / WINDEX small event

5.25 here. I meant to steal the extra .75 from Cumberland but I lost some in transit. Wind is significant on the Pell bridge. Should have accounted for wastage. -

Go ahead and post a map of all of New England for this storm when we are done. -

I missed the big storm too as I was in England for my dad's funeral. Shit happens. Enjoy the snow. Or don't. I'm happy other people are being buried. Eventually we all have our moments. Your climo means you have them more often than all the places you think are "winning" this time. -

I mean, if narcissism was a meteorological model, that's what it would look like. We aren't in a race. Nobody is stealing your snow. Mostly you'll do better, as you just arrested to, in a roundabout way. -

The rest of those island did not get 6+ inches. None of the East Bay will have, I certainly didn't. I really don't get it. I thought you were into sledding or something. I would have thought being able to do that, for a month straight, due to snow cover would mean you aren't aggrieved. -

This band is edging me. Get on with it or I'll drive over to Jamestown. -

3.25. was barely not in the very good stuff on the trough, but it looks great. Maybe will get a little more on the backside. -

Watching winter Olympics, fat flakes outside. Flu riddled household. I just hope there isn't a suicide in Cumberland. -

2" so far. Snowing nicely now, if I can maybe stay under this little band for a while I'll be doing well. It's super pretty, but it's not snowing as hard here as radar would suggest. -

It doesn't matter to you at all that's there's been snow to play in for weeks and weeks? I always thought playing in snow was the end game, not a ruler? Persistent snowpack in RI, the bay freezing... My skis are by my backdoor. My snow tube is in my trunk. If I didn't have flu b right now I'd be out tomorrow. -

A little too thirsty for the needle dick. It's a very narrow trough. Complaining when you are middle of the road for one random model output in a fairly minor event that's a nowcast? You might do really well? If you don't instead of 7 inches you'll get 4 and it's a pack refresher. There's been a fun amount of snow on the ground for weeks. It's pretty again. We've had more days of feeling like it's actually winter here than since 2015 and it's snowing right now. Where is the anger coming from? This event was always minor bar a very small band. -

Narragansett Bay snow hole accurately modeled... Lock it in. -
This winter has been relatively boring for me, given I was abroad for the only significant snowfall. That said, the retention of this pack is fantastic, the best I've seen since 2015. Once I smashed through the crust I have a couple nice tracks through the cemetery and am able to cross country ski two weeks after the snowfall, and will be able to for the foreseeable. Sledding hills have been taken for granted and are mostly empty. Today was gorgeous for cross country.

Possible coastal storm centered on Feb 1 2026.

So you got nothing and expected nothing. I got excitement and disappointment and hope and reality and some weather knowledge, and then ultimately nothing. I'm going to keep doing it this way. -

The upstream low was closer and weaker than previous runs so it was more lobular and not totally discrete. I still think that whole look would be a bit of a nowcast. -

GFS a complete whiff.
