  1. I don't think they are ugly but I wouldn't put them on my roof. I don't like the idea of adding risk to any one needing to access my roof for service. They add risks to firefighters and thus impact firefighting capabilities and would need to removed and replaced when my shingles need replacement. Yeah, that's one of the reasons why it's not high on my priority list. I do see outages a few times a year and it would be nice to have but the generator does the trick for me now. My roof does have good exposure but late in the afternoon I get some shading the trees on a hill to my west and I'd have to cut those down for maximum exposure. That would increase the amount of light and heat hitting my house in the summer and actually increase my electric needs for AC.
  2. I could get them but I prefer to do it on my own dime, not someone else's. I also wouldn't want them on my roof and I'd want a battery system so I could use them during a power outage. So it's a project that's on my bucket list but just not at the top.
  3. I love hearing the cicada's. It usually means that temps in the 30s are coming 30-40 days after you hear them. It's one of those "march of time" indicators for me. The fact that others are hearing them north of me is a good sign.
  4. It figures that I'm away when a tornado forms just east of my house. It looks like it really got going east of here and through Union & Woodstock before heading into Mass.
  5. At least at my house, that appears to be the case. BDL was -0.5 for June and +2.5 for July.
  6. I never said it was normal. When I look at the 35 July's I have recorded, 17 were "cooler" and 18 were warmer than this past July. My average temp was 69.9°. My 30+ year normal for July is 69.4° so the month was 0.5° above normal. I can't speak for HFD but I know that NNE got the brunt of the hot weather during that one hot stretch at the beginning of the month.
  7. Summer is 2/3's done and is sitting at #6 coolest in 36 years around here. June was the 3rd coolest and July wound up just about smack dab in the middle for average temps ranking. We'll see what August brings in the end but it does look like the first part is going to be humid. To be sure we've had some impressive stretches of humidity and I would argue that were in the middle of one of the more impressive ones but it has not been hot save for a select group of days.
  8. Have you tried a boosted external antenna like something from WeBoost? https://www.weboost.com/products/connect-home-4g It uses an external antenna and amplifies the signal. You can also upgrade the antenna to a directional yagi type if you know the direction of the tower that you're trying to hit. You can also do that with WiFi signals which might open up other options for you. I have a brother that lives in rural Oregon and I'm working with him on a solution as well. I'm currently testing a WiFi solution. It's originally designed for transit WiFi using multiple carriers and it's less than $100/mo but it's better than DSL.
  9. 53° here this morning and up to 73°. Just about peak climo or at least in a week or two so no complaints from me.
  10. Anything in here help? https://www.americanwx.com/bb/notifications/options/ It's under account settings.
  11. Meh...fake dews. The high fake dews allowed the temp to drop to the low 50s this morning. Another nice comfortable sleeping night after a one day "torch".
  12. Interesting. This was a few years after I joined the forum after being away from the weather community for about 10-15 years and I remember not knowing what the heck happened. I remember a post saying something like "this is a big day for the board" and then later that day I didn't see any new posts and it took me several days to figure out what happens...lol.
  13. Awesome shots but I wish people would hold the phones the right way when shooting...you loose so much holding it vertically.
  14. And every year was above normal. How that's mathematically possible is beyond me but in some worlds I guess that's how it used to be?
  15. We had lots of discussions at the end of the month due to it's "historic" nature. There were a couple of long stretches of high dew points and high temps like those posted above.
  16. Not to some. To some the people on the streets prefer what we had the past 5 days but the reality (data) is a lot different.
  17. All of SNE? Where's your data to backup that statement? Without data, it's just an opinion. Others have posted dates and data and not just statements. Where's yours?
  18. Yeah, NNE put up some impressive records. Unless there is data to show for it, opinion does not set the record. Years from now all that will be left is the data and when the data shows other events like this, even as recent as 2013 at my place, it doesn't stand out. Up there yes, down here...not so much.
  19. But, as you are fond of saying, it's not representative of the air mass as a whole so it's "fake". We have fake cold, fake heat and now fake dews.
  20. Yeah, the really impressive stats all seem to be coming out of NNE. Just look at the Mt Mansfield numbers - that is impressive. MWN got so close too. Down here it's been a good stretch, particularly with the humidity. Looking back though, it seems like we went through something longer in July 2015 with 11 straight days having lows around 70.
  21. It's strange to see ORH (84°) on par with CEF (81°) & BDL (84°) at 11am.
  22. Makes me happy to know that snow exists somewhere in New England....
  23. Strange...a little different down here. Dp's are a few degrees lower and yesterday was a couple of degrees "cooler" than Sunday as well (if you can call a high of 90° cool...lol). I was thinking that as I went to bed last night. I have an old house that is poorly insulated and I can have a difficult time fully cooling down my bedroom which is on the south side of the house. On Sunday it was still near 80 in it when I went to bed. The Dp was in the upper 70s and the high was 92° on Sunday. Yesterday I had a high of 90° but with the Dp 5° lower the bedroom was closer to 70° last night. Looks like the 850's temps tick downward till this weekend...looks like a nice CoC weekend coming up?
  24. This happened at BDL as well at some point in the early 90s and I think ORH's sensors were re-located at some point and there was a subtle change there as well. Microclimatology always amazed me and the differences you can sometimes get.
