    Here’s a picture from this morning. We moved from our old house we had lived in for 10yrs to this new location closer town, so was wondering what the effect would be on snowfall totals. This time around, the new location did better than where I just moved from. It was, apparently, all about the banding last night.

    Wow guys, I went to bed at 11:30 with 3/4in and just woke up with 1 3/4in! Sometime during the night, it must have really opened up and snowed hard! I hate that I missed it, but it sure is nice to see this AM

    Nice heavy dusting here now everything is beginning to turn white temp is 31.

    Nice steady snow coming down here now. Rooftops are beginning to whiten up a little bit.

    Snow has really picked up here in the last 20-30mins. It’s switched over to all snow and a lot of nickel sized flakes.

    It’s beginning to mix a little here and there in Morristown. I went up on Crockett Ridge (1,952ft) a min ago and it was all snow up there but nothing is sticking yet. Seems like it only lasts like John said for 5min or so at a time. Definitely showery like.

    I hear ya Stove! Until yesterday I had only picked up 0.09in the entire month of July. Yesterday we got 0.35in and today, so far only 0.08in. It has been very dry around my part of the county, but other areas have done well for sure.

    Yes it’s really something else. I’m in Pigeon Forge with the family and you can just barely see any of the mountains. Also it rained here earlier this AM and everyone’s car has dried dust droplets all over it now that it has dried off. Pretty crazy to think that I can scrape dust from the Sahara off of my vehicle!!

    Hit 33 this AM with a pretty heavy frost everywhere. Like everyone else, I’m hoping this is it until Fall as well. I had waited to put most of my plants out-only had about a dozen tomatoes out, which I had to cover up with buckets as well. The thing I was most worried about was my blueberry crop which seems to have fared ok, thankfully. Got to get the rest of my plants in the ground it’s time for summer!

    Bottomed out at 33 not officially a freeze, but there is ice on the cover of the trampoline. Tonight has me more concerned than last night with the ridge moving overhead. Like MRX said, there will be excellent radiational cooling.

    Man John I hate to hear that. Do you have any left worth trying to salvage? Aside from putting a couple guard dogs there to protect it, another trick my grandfather and I used to use on our melon patch was urine. Now before anyone laughs me off and thinks I'm crazy, it actually works. The human scent will repel animals. Just have to save enough containers like milk jugs and cool whip containers to scatter around the patch. Of course it requires a strong stomach to do this, but if you do this and keep it out there, you will be surprised at how it helps. You will have to replace it if it rains and or after about a week, but it was always worth it to do for our melon patches. We had several 5-10 acre sized fields that we raised watermelons and cantaloupes on when I was growing up. We always sold them to grocers and wholesale buyers. It was a lot of work, but also a lot of fun. Taught me a lot about hard work and the benefits of doing it. Something a lot of kids are missing these days. Brings back a lot of memories, but I digress though. Fwiw though that technique will work.

    Well, I mentioned I'd update y'all on this vine okra. It's been coming in ever so slowly but finally looks as though it's gonna come on and produce well. Here is an example of what it looks like. This particular pod is laying right on the ground actually in the grass. I have some more pods up off the ground and will try to get a pic of a bigger one tomorrow. The fruit tastes a lot like okra but is a little sweeter, a little crunchier, and definitely goes a lot further, as the pods grow over a foot long and are still tender at 10-12in long. I would definitely grow it again, just need a better trellis and setup than what I have.

    I can vouch for Neem oil, it works well on aphids and whiteflies, but I hate the smell of it. It's kind of sticky too, I guess that's the soap component in it. At any rate, it has saved my tomato plants on more than one occasion

    Not dealing with a whole lot of pests, but we are having issues with the tomatoes. This irregular rainfall is causing the leaves to curl up bad. I guess I should follow your advice Stove and mulch more, mine entire garden is in 100% sunshine all day, no trees and no shade. It's hard on the plants when it's hot and the rain is unreliable. I water, but it's just not the same as rain. Seems like it just keeps the plants alive, but boy, if I could get a nice rain, everything would really kick off.

    That is impressive stove! I don't have near that much stuff this year, but I have before. Just don't have the time for a nice big garden. I've got about 15 tomatoes, 3 cayenne peppers, 3 squash, a couple of watermelons, a little corn, a row of okra (Clemson spineless) and a few vine okra. Has anyone ever tried that before? I have no experience with it. Actually got it from a customer last year. I planted it and it's up, but am scared bc with my little 15x30 garden plot, the word vine has me wondering if I'm gonna have enough room haha. The vine okra seed look a lot like watermelon actually. How could I forget. I also have 7 cucumber plants. I also make garlic dill pickles, but I use the sun to do the work for me-my great grandmothers recipe. Don't have to boil them using this method to can them.

    A lot of us have heard about the infamous "Year without a summer" but there isn't much data on it available. I did find an interesting article on it but I'm not sure how reliable the post is.     Hi Everyone, My name is Jason. I've been around here for awhile, but never posting, just reading. I'm glad you guys switched to storm mode, as it forced me to join, which I should have a long time ago anyway! I've always been interested in weather, since I was a kid, and have seen many amazing storms, esp. growing up in N MS during the 80's and 90's. Anyways, I know some of you from various and sundry places, but I am certainly glad to meet more of you. My favorite weather, I guess, if you could call it that is winter weather. I'm no expert, but really enjoy learning about it. I'm looking forward to learning a lot here on this board! Now, let's track some storms!
